COPENHAGEN, Nov 14 (Reuters) - A majority of Danes are now opposed to keeping
the 470 Danish troops in Iraq, an opinion poll published on Tuesday showed.
In the poll of 1,083 people, conducted by Ramboll for the daily Jyllands-Posten,
60 percent said they were against further military contributions in Iraq, while 29
percent supported keeping the Danish troops there.
In a similar poll conducted in August last year, 48 percent of those asked opposed
continued Danish military involvement in Iraq, while 43 percent supported it.
Denmark is a staunch U.S. ally in Iraq and its government has said Danish troops
will remain in Iraq for as long as they are needed. But political support for the
force has declined in the past year and Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen may
face an uphill struggle to extend its mission.
