Rice says 'no magic bullet' to fix Iraq
RAMSTEIN AFB, Germany - Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Tuesday "there is no magic bullet" solution to the mounting problems in Iraq, and she indicated no new willingness to ask for help from U.S. adversaries in the Middle East.

"It is not an issue of whether you talk to somebody," Rice said. "I will talk to anybody, anywhere, anytime, under the right circumstances if I think we can make progress. I am not afraid to talk to anyone."

Members of the Republican foreign policy establishment and some U.S. allies have suggested that the Bush administration was shortsighted to refuse wider dialogue with Iran, which holds huge influence over its Shiite neighbor Iraq, and in cutting off most diplomacy with Syria.

~snip~

Rice spent nearly two full days this week huddled with advisers on Iraq and talking to a bipartisan panel whose recommendations are due next month. The panel may recommend the kind of engagement with Iran and Syria that Rice and President Bush have so far ruled out.

"I don't think that there are any magic bullets about Iraq," Rice told reporters aboard her plane. "This is a complicated place, they are in a difficult time."

5. Reuters: Rice cool to talks with Iran, Syria
Rice cool to talks with Iran, Syria

By Arshad Mohammed
Wed Nov 15, 12:59 AM ET

RAMSTEIN AIR BASE, Germany (Reuters) - U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice
on Tuesday said neither Iran nor Syria appeared interested in helping stabilize Iraq
or the Middle East as she played down the idea of direct talks.

"There is no lack of opportunity to talk to the Iranians. I think the question is:
is there anything about Iranian behavior that suggests that they are prepared to
contribute to stability in Iraq and I have to say that at this point, I don't see it,"
Rice told reporters as she flew to Hanoi for the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation
regional summit.

-snip-

Rice did not rule out talks with Iran about Iraq, noting there is a channel between
the U.S. and Iranian ambassadors to Iraq "that, at some point, it could make sense
to activate." But she made clear she saw little profit in such discussions.

16. 'no magic bullet'? At least Rice has taken off her rose colored glasses. If she had just
known that before she endorsed Dubya's unjustified, preemptive invasion of Iraq, then we would not be mired in a situation where the only decision is how to minimize further damage to Iraq and U.S. troops. That's a lose-lose decision.

It's terrible that we appoint someone to the position of National Security Advisor and later Secretary of State who must go through six years of On-The-Job training to become minimally qualified.

I believe she is the most incompetent Sec. of State this country has ever had.

She's in over her head and she knows it. She should just resign now.

So said the stupid rice.

Only you're not cleaning it up, rice.

The man who WARNED YOU this shit would happen is having to clean it up; or at least try. You should have listened to Brent Scowcroft when he told you this would backfire big-time.

25. at least she admitted one thing
Finally she admitted that things aren't going as well as they would like to say they are. Of course, I think the elections had a lot to do with that. Of course there is no magic bullet to fix Iraq. You can't use violence on someone and tell them that violence isn't the answer. This administration is actually doing the right thing and using diplomacy in dealing with North Korea. Why aren't we doing the same thing and getting an unbiased third party in here to get the sunnis and shias to the table and negotiate a peace deal. I bet that if part of the deal is that the US get out that the fighting would stop.

according to Al Jazeera.

The Bush adminitration is in danger of shooting itself in the foot again over Iran. It seems that the Velcro Cowboy can't bring himself to play nice, just like the spoiled brat he is.
