Blair learns of Mideast peace plan from BBC report
Edited on Sun Nov-19-06 09:58 AM by FernBell
Britain was not informed of the new Middle East peace plan pushed by France, Spain and Italy despite Premier Tony Blair earlier this week calling for a new strategy in the region, the English newspaper The Guardian reported on Friday.

According to the newspaper, Blair's Downing Street office confirmed that it had not been consulted, and had no prior knowledge of the proposed plan, which calls for a cease-fire between Israel and the Palestinian Authority, an exchange of prisoners, a Palestinian "government of national unity" and the dispatch of a fact-finding mission to the Palestinian territories.

Unidentified sources within the British Foreign Office told the newspaper that the first they had learned of the plan was from a news item on BBC News.

.......

Blair said Monday the three-year-old Iraq conflict - in which US and British troops appear increasingly mired - needs to be seen as part of a "whole Middle East" strategy. "Just as the situation is evolving, so our strategy has to evolve to meet it," he said.

"Just as it is, in significant part, forces outside Iraq that are trying to create mayhem inside Iraq, so we have to have a strategy that pins them back, not only in Iraq but outside of it too ... "This is what I call a 'whole Middle East' strategy," he said.

Dayum!! Too bad he's so far out of the loop that he can learn about the 'whole Middle East' strategy through the BBC!

1. I don't blame the other countries for not keeping them in the loop
the UK and US don't LISTEN. Why try to include countries that push their fingers into their ears and chant *lalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalala* when you are try to express a different solution?

The whole ME conflict has done more to damage the credibility of the US an UK than any other thing they've done. Too bad they haven't a clue.

2. And Tony the bLiar just LIES again.
"in significant part, forces outside Iraq that are trying to create mayhem inside Iraq"

That, Tony the bLiar, is a LIE. And your own government and your own military told you so just last week.
