CIA analysis finds no Iranian nuclear weapons drive: report
Edited on Sun Nov-19-06 04:18 PM by Heaven and Earth
WASHINGTON (AFP) - A classifed draft
CIA assessment has found no firm evidence of a secret drive by
Iran to develop nuclear weapons, as alleged by the White House, a top US investigative reporter has said.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20061119/ts_afp/usirannuclearweaponsmilitary_061119034024

(hat tip to Americablog)

Shock of shocks. No clear evidence...AGAIN. Check out Cheney openingly vowing to ignore congress in the administration's drive for yet another war, further down in the article:

"If the Democrats won on November 7th, the vice president said, that victory would not stop the administration from pursuing a military option with Iran," Hersh wrote, citing a source familiar with the discussion.

Cheney said the White House would circumvent any legislative restrictions "and thus stop Congress from getting in its way," he said."

This has to be pushed into the Corporate Media consciousness, so the warmongering against Iran can get shut down as soon as possible.

11. Think Ahmedinejad is just yanking Bush's chain??
So it would seem if this CIA thing is real. I guess he knows how unreliable Bush's intelligence on nuclear issues are (remember: no nukes or WMDs in iraq?)
I think he's doing some psycological warfare but he must know he's dealing with a paranoiad madman who pulls the trigger way too quick (Cheney)
I think its a case of the whacko leading the whacko

Is it because of what happened during the Nixon debacle or is he just delusional?

Traces of bomb-grade uranium found two years ago in Iran came from contaminated Pakistani equipment and are not evidence of a clandestine nuclear weapons program, a group of U.S. government experts and other international scientists has determined."The biggest smoking gun that everyone was waving is now eliminated with these conclusions," said a senior official who discussed the still-confidential findings on the condition of anonymity.

Iran has long contended that the uranium traces were the result of contaminated equipment bought years ago from Pakistan. But the Bush administration had pointed to the material as evidence that Iran was making bomb-grade ingredients.

13. I guess it all depends on what God tells Bush to do. Bush attacked Iraq on
flimsy evidence, but he claims God gave him the go-ahead anyway.

15. If war erupts with Iran without a declaration (fat chance on that) then Cheney needs to be impeached
immediately and then Bush so that he can't get a nominated VP through and Pelosi becomes president.

It would be the legalized equivalent of a coup d'etat, but would be necessary in my opinion, as a war with Iran would be suicide for both countries, and spreading out to God only knows where.

Iran is as large as a quarter of the continental US and has 70 million people...it is not a nation of sheepherders and poets any longer...it is "surrounded" on 3 sides by Pakistan/Afghanistan/Iraq and a US/NATO Indian Ocean. With neighbors like that...who can blame them for being jittery?

The president is a glorified ribbon-cutter. All main decisions regarding foreign policy, the military, nuclear policy, etc. come from the Mullahs and Ayatollahs in the Supreme Revolutionary Council, not from the president or the Parliament. They deal with the day to day operation of the country, not the strategic things, the Ayatollahs do that....

16. like a cornered, rabid, injured, wild animal, this vile collection of
thugs, oil barons, greedy bastards and PNACpricks is at its most dangerous.

Much like the Bay of Tompkin events led to US involvement in VietNam, much like the yellowcake fiasco and others led to our invasion of IraqNam, watch carefully for a constructed event intended to suck the US into an attack on Iran. Of course, our battle groups are already there. 4 aircraft carrier groups now stalk Iranian airspace every day. They pack one HELL of a punch. Watch for something involving Israel. That would at least get the Religious Reichtists on their side.

It is a very dangerous time.

22. If War Erupts with Iran Without a Declaration
Cheney's comment that the White House would "circumvent the legislative process" i.e. the Congress and move forward with whatever plan they wanted to attack Iran calls for impeachment now! Why wait until they do it? This pair (Bush/Cheney) has to go! What a dangerous duo to have their fingers on the nuclear button. Both are certifiably insane and for the sake of the world they must be removed from office. Such a statement as Cheney's cannot be ignored and the Democrats need to take this up as soon as January comes around.

17. CIA using reverse psychology this time.
After the Iraq WMD intelligence screw-ups, they know very few people (right wing wackos excluded) will believe anything they "report", so this time they say that there is no evidence of a Iranian Nuke program knowing that most Americans will then believe there is an Iranian Nuke program.
Very clever plan....

20. IIRC, that's what they said last time too
Dick Cheney had to personally visit them to make sure they cherry-picked the correct intelligence to support the conclusions the administration had already reached.
