Homeless man rescued (9yr old) girl in North Las Vegas crash
Edited on Tue Nov-28-06 10:11 PM by NVMojo
LAS VEGAS (AP) - Stan Washburn thought of his own daughters on Saturday as he looked at the bloodied face of 9-year-old girl and tried to heave a 5,000-pound car off her contorted body.

"I could see them in her eyes from time to time beneath all the blood," the 48-year-old homeless man told the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

"I mean, I knew it wasn't one of my little girls, but I remember them when they were that little, and I knew it was somebody's little girl. I was devastated by the accident. I just couldn't let her die.'"

It was 2:30 p.m. Saturday as the one-eyed Washburn sat drinking beer with friends on a cement wall between a Jack In The Box restaurant and the Silver Nugget Bowling Center in North Las Vegas.

He saw the 9-year-old girl, who had been waiting across the street with an older woman, suddenly run into the street, straight into the path of a late model Cadillac, Washburn said Monday.

Brakes screamed. So did the older woman. Washburn is sure he could hear the girl, who was being dragged under the car, yelling "No."

2. what a great story!
just returned from Vegas and saw a young fellow sitting on the curb sobbing. My 90 yr old Dad made me go back and offer him help. It was heartbreaking.

4. What a truly beautiful thing to do
When I see the homeless, I see their unknown stories of pain, and rejection. I could never blame them, because who would truly want to be homeless? They are our fellow human beings, and deserve our help. I hope and pray that Mr. Washburn will be reunited with his family, and receive some kind of help.

He stepped forward to help, and that's all I need to know about him. Maybe his daughters can take the step of reaching out to him, and helping him get the kind of assistance he needs. Since I am an imperfect person, who has caused pain to others, even though that was not my intention, I can only feel compassion for Mr. Washburn.

12. Isn't it strange, Skittles?
That conservatives can't understand why we try to help others? Well, for my own part, I can never understand conservatives, either. Something is missing from their own hearts, and it seems to be the part that makes us human. You are a good person, and the coworker might as well be an alien life form, because his humanity seems questionable.

8. Isn't Las Veges the same city that banned feeding the Homeless in the parks?
I vaguely remember a story about that. That the city council banned the feeding of homeless in the cities parks and people can get fined if they do?

Was it Las Veges?
