Is the U.S. citizenship test about to get tougher?
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15940161/

<snip>

On Wednesday federal officials will unveil new test questions designed, they say, to make the exam more meaningful.

"Our idea is to make this a test which is more relevant, which instills a greater sense of civic pride," says Emilio Gonzalez, director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

Some of the new questions:

Why do we have three branches of government? (It's not enough just to name them.)
Name two ways Americans can participate in our democracy.
Name three of the Cabinet posts and what they do.
Name one idea in the Declaration of Independence.

Some immigrant advocates are suspicious of the new questions and a likely increase of the $400 test fee.

Bet not to many Americans could answer these questions.

2. Proposal: In order to run for office, one must be able to pass this test.
So many politicians act like they know little about our country.

5. I like that. More practical than an IQ test.
Which, I suppose, we've all been considering.

3. If there is a will there is a way!
Of course immigrants will study hard regardless of any obstacle put forward by immigration bureaucrats. There are known instants were eighty year old immigrants sat across immigration-exclusionists while suspecting cheating, and passed the test. Nothing knew here folks but racism ideology that is passive to our nation that is hateful to immigrants.

4. Before you put down Americans' knowledge
Understand that our public schools aren't teaching kids about their own country. When I was in school, we learned about Canada, Mexico, British royalty (yeah, THAT was useful) and World History. NOTHING about American history. NOTHING about how our government works.

Personally, I think questions like these need to be in the classroom, as well as in the citizenship test.

8. And at the bottom of the form is the last and most important question...
to see if these potential new americans have what it takes to be a U.S. Citizen. Question provided to us by our fearless leader, g.w.bush**

questions:

If you were in a dark alley and were suddenly confronted by Osama Bin Laden and you had a gun,
Would you:
a)shoot him

b)give him the gun

c)look around and see if anybody else was shooting

d)put the gun down and run like hell

or lastly

e)make believe like he wasn't there, state that you are still looking for him and if you had the opportunity to shoot him you would but first you have to find him to do that.

10. I heard a cab driver's CD study guide for the test
While he was driving me into NYC, he asked if he could play the practice CD for his upcoming citizenship test. I said sure. The CD asked a series of sample questions and gave the answers. I bet that 95% of Americans would fail that test.

Why do we have three branches of government? (It's not enough just to name them.)

How else can we divide up the bribes?

Name two ways Americans can participate in our democracy.

1. Give bribe money to the Republican National Committee?
2. Give bribe money to the Republican congressmen?

Name three of the Cabinet posts and what they do.

Secretary of Defense, to give money to people who give to GOP Election campaigns who provides guns

Secretary of Education, to give money to people who give to GOP Election Campaigns who lack educations?

Secretary of Energy, to give money to people who give to GOP Election Campaign to build Nuclear Weapons?

Name one idea in the Declaration of Independence.

1. .... has endeavoured to bring on the inhabitants of our frontiers, the merciless Indian Savages whose known rule of warfare, is an undistinguished destruction of all ages, sexes and conditions.

14. Why DID WE USED TO have three branches of government?
We used to have a system of checks and balances.

No more. The courts have been stacked to favor BushCo. Time will tell whether this congress shows any backbone to the Administrative branch.

And our informal fourth branch, the press, has been MIA for years.
