Bomb-Like Device Found Near I-71; Traffic Stopped, Buildings Evacuated (Cincinnati, Ohio)

HazMat crews are on the scene and now suiting up to possibly disarm the device.

Businesses within 300 feet of the area are still being evacuated, including the retailers at Rookwood Commons.

Lt. Tom Williams with the Norwood police department says he doesn't believe the situation will end anytime soon.

Road closures are still in effect on 562 (Norwood Lateral) and I-71 at the Smith-Edwards exit. Click here for live traffic conditions.

I-71 is expected to be shut down for at least a few more hours.

CINCINNATI -- An incendiary device found next to Interstate 71 on Wednesday morning has been destroyed by the Cincinnati bomb squad.
I-71 was closed between the Norwood Lateral and Edwards Avenue much of Wednesday after a device was found near the Williams Avenue bridge.
A witness said that a Department of Transportation landscaping crew found the device in a tree near the bridge and called police.

Police and fire crews gathered at the opposite end of the Williams Avenue bridge. Members of the bomb squad went to the device shortly before 11:15 a.m. after a bomb dog examined the device.

A source told News 5's Emily Longnecker that the device contained a clock, wires, a battery and two tanks that may hold some sort of liquid....
