After small gain in first day of recount, Kissell concedes to Hayes

CHARLOTTE, N.C. Defeat looked inevitable so Larry Kissell conceded today that he had been beaten by G-O-P Representative Robin Hayes in North Carolina's Eighth Congressional District. The concession came after the first day of a hand recount requested by Kissell.

Hayes says he looks forward to working for the citizens in the district and thanked his campaign volunteers.

Kissell trailed Hayes by just 329 votes out of more than 121-thousand cast following a machine recount last week. He gained only two votes on the first day of the hand recount from a small sample of precincts. He probably would have needed to pick up another eight to 10 votes Thursday to force a full hand recount of every ballot cast in the election.

The race was one of the last unresolved U-S House races in the nation.

1. they left 5 counties un counted
I guess the process was too drawn out.

It is possible he could have picked up more votes with the
other 5 counties.

But, it seems that the voting machines were nicer to Democrats
than republicans, when you look at the recounts.
