(NY Gov) Spitzer Outlines New Reforms
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) -- Eliot Spitzer, who swept to office promising to reform state government, said Thursday he will set the tone by adhering to an unprecedented set of self-imposed reforms including limiting campaign contributions and taking no money for speeches.

Spitzer also will ban questions on political affiliation in hiring, initiate budget reforms and refuse to appear in state-paid TV commercials. He told reporters that politicians, including himself, have in the past said they couldn't be expected to ``disarm themselves'' by refusing to accept donations and gifts allowed by law.

...snip...

Spitzer's policies come Jan. 1 that don't require approval by the Legislature include:

_Limiting campaign contributions to himself and Paterson to $10,000 from unions, limited liability companies, political action committees and other groups. That's 80 percent less than allowed by law.

_Maintaining a $5,000 cap on corporate donations for himself and Paterson but prohibiting companies from donating more through subsidiaries.

1. Gawd, one could only dream of this happening in California

If there was any a place where the most people thought they were in on the take, it would be this state I live in, California

Being foolish enough to understand how they put money in one pocket and take it out through the other is a lost art and just flies by many.
