Family feuds over Sept. 11 pilot

After Sandra Dahl's husband died Sept. 11, 2001, she had their names inscribed together on his gravestone. Capt. Jason Dahl was the pilot of United Airlines Flight 93, which crashed into a Pennsylvania field during an aborted hijacking. His widow planned that when her day came, she would join him in spirit and on finely etched granite.

But the tragedy of Jason Dahl's death -- an event remembered with honor across the land -- has fallen into a bitter family feud over his remains.

His widow has sued San Jose's Oak Hill Memorial Park, where he is buried, claiming the cemetery replaced his tombstone with a new one that removed all mention of her name -- and did so at the request of her mother-in-law, Mildred Dahl.

To add a bizarre twist, Mildred Dahl died Monday at age 83, one day before she was named in the lawsuit.

This second wife agreed to all the conditions of this grave stone when it was placed ... now she wants to move it? ... she wants to sue ... she tried to cheat his minor child out of any support money that came from a life insurance policy ... the family has fought her for years .... the son has nothing to do with her ... she's a monster ...

Jason Dahl was a friend ... but he had really bad taste in women ... this one is just a user ...

so I don't want to seem as if I am speaking out of turn, but I have to say that after reading your post and the original article, I do have to wonder at a description of "family" that excludes this man's (presumably second) wife.

3. If they were married at the time of his death, I don't understand why

she doesn't have (or didn't have) the authority to determine where he would be buried, and that she would be buried alongside him. Why was he buried in a four-person plot, where there is no room for her to be interred? Why would she have let that happen? Also, I do not understand your final comment re: Sandy, and Jason's son. Can you elaborate?

I don't mean to sound snotty, it seems from your comments that perhaps you know the Dahl's? Just looking for more information.

9. Jason's son is from his first marriage ... he is not Sandy's

The young man is epileptic ... this whole mess has been an ongoing nightmare for the family ... my guess is she has run through the money she settled for the first go round and now wants more attention and more money ... She literally wanted Jason's son cut out completely with NO compensation when his Dad died ...

The family lost one son in Vietnam ... Jason was a pilot in Vietnam, also, and is buried next to his brother (well the stone is next to his brother I don't know that any remains are there) and now his MOM has died ... she should just leave it alone ...

I have no respect for people who won't take care of children in need. There was probably a moral obligation, if not a legal one, to help Jason's son as much as possible. What a shame they lost their other son as well. That poor family.

too bad whether the family approved or not. He picked, he married her and by all accounts was happy with her. If she wants to be buried with her husband that is her right. Mom did not have the right to make this choice for her maried son.
