Bush pledges fight against AIDS, promotes abstinence
US President George W. Bush pledged US commitment to the global fight against AIDS and said abstinence was "the only sure way" to avoid the spread of the HIV virus that causes the disease.

"On World AIDS Day, we underscore our commitment to fight the AIDS pandemic with compassion and decisive action," the president said in a statement released in advance of Friday's UN-led commemoration.

"America leads the world in the fight against HIV/AIDS, and through the Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief we are combating the disease in countries around the world," he said.

He cited the New Partners Initiative, in which the US supports faith-based and community organizations that offer health care in the developing world, "so that we can reach more people more effectively."

2. Sadly, he has a point.
The way people lie, you just cannot trust a person. :(

I wonder why he's so hot to trot on helping people in the developing world. Not a bad thing, certainly, but why do I feel as if Americans are being ignored in these causes? Are all Americans beyond possibility of help?! (some, yes, but certainly not all...)

3. ermm
Abstinence.. while good in the abstract.. simply isn't practiced
and never will be.

Again, here we see Bush at his worst head in the sand unrealistic
mentality... which is par for him. He's stuck in it.

6. Shouldn't that read -
"Bush publicly contradicts himelf".

Better headline. Shorter, punchier. More truthful.

8. What does the GOP have against sex?
I think they all must be eunuchs.
It's all about the abstinence to them.
Why not: "Bush pledges fight against breast cancer, promotes mastectomies" ?
His "pledges" aren't worth the spittle that flies from his mouth when he makes them.

14. Well, when you're married, it's easy to promote abstinence
It's cheap, and makes you feel self-righteous.

9. Dumb Dumb DUMB
Damn it. This is fundie, hand-washing, fantasy bullshit. People have sex. DEAL WITH IT.

It's called responsibility, and that responsibility not only comes down to the individual practicing using birth control, but the government promoting better programs ADVOCATING birth control.

17. God, he's really pissing me off
This along with the, "we have a mission to complete in Iraq" bullshit.

Millions are dead and dying and all he can say is "don't fuck"?

How's this you ass hole? FUCK YOU. GO FUCK YOURSELF. If only your skank mother hadn't produced you, this world would be a bit better off. At the minimum a few hundred thousand less Iraqis, and a few thousand less Americans.

The drug companies are not giving cheaper drugs to these countries (or even allowing cheaper off brands to be produced by India or Brazil), contribute millions to an administration that will protect against all cost, and defend them worldwide, and then he'll claim cheap, meaningless, and unreal solutions such as abstinence?
