BBC - US manufacturing activity weakens (lowest in 3 yrs!)
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/6199978.stm

<< US manufacturing has weakened sharply in a fresh sign that the world's largest economy is slowing down, according to a key survey.

National factory activity fell to its lowest level last month in more than three years, the Institute for Supply Management (ISM) survey said.

One analyst said the dollar would continue to decline against European currencies if the economic signs did not improve.

"There is no reason to buy dollars, especially versus European currencies," said Thierry Elias, head currency trader at Banque Natexis Populaires.

"It just supports the mentality that has been in place for the past 10 days and that is: sell dollars." >>

4. Does anyone have a link to what we currently still manufacture here in the US?
I was looking for something showing the types of manufacturing and how much they are producing. I've looked and keep coming up with just overall manufacturing figures. I would like a break down by category if that's possible.

7. I would also like to know.

Judging by the products I see, very little is manufactured here. Also, many of the products labeled "Made in U.S.A." are made outside the U.S. (Saipan, etc.)

I would love to know what is still manufactured here.

19. I saw that many years ago on a GE television.
Engineered in the U.S., assembled in Mexico. At that time, the parts had been made in the U.S.

9. One positive note
I am in manufacturing and business is definitely picking up since the election. October sucked, but I'm making up the difference easily since November. Seems people are in better moods again. I wouldn't be surprise if the numbers for the next quarter get better.

10. I heard an "expert" talking about the dollar on one of the money stations
"Expert" because I don't know his credentials. But he said the dollar is in for a rough ride for the next 3-6 months against the Euro and the pound, for the reasons given in the article.

18. Not my manufacturing company. We've seen 33% growth this year over last with an 11 year-old company
There certainly are some markets in this economy that are still growing.

20. Same here
The company I work for is over 50 years old and every month we set new sales records. Granted we are a specialty manufacturer though. We do stuff for the medical and research fields mostly. You won't find any of our stuff at Wal-mart or any store for that matter. We do make some components that end up in end-user products but mostly our stuff is used to make other products or is used by hospitals for patient monitoring or other medical researchers.
