N.H. GOP Settles Phone-Jamming Lawsuit
http://www.abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory?id=2694565

CONCORD, N.H. Dec 1, 2006 (AP)— The New Hampshire Democratic Party, which had sought compensation in an Election Day 2002 phone-jamming scheme, settled its lawsuit against the GOP for an undisclosed amount, state Republicans said Friday.

The announcement came just days before the case was expected to go to trial on Monday in Hillsborough County Superior Court.

... Kathy Sullivan, state Democratic Party chairwoman, said she would not comment on the matter until Saturday. Ray Buckley, vice chairman of the New Hampshire Democratic Party and named as a plaintiff, said party officials agreed that Sullivan would make any comments on the case.

1. So all the Dems got out of it was $$.
Musta been lots of $$ to cause them to forgo the publicity of a trial & the opportunity to expose the Puggies for the slime that they are.

5. I am very disappointed that this would be the end of it.
I would sure like to know the reasoning behind it.

It should have played out publicly. I guess the fact that the calls were made to the WH means a lot of pressure was on to settle quietly.

I am disappointed.

10. NH Democratic Party let Republicans buy their way out of trouble.
I believe in 2000 the Repubs settled a case of voter suppression in Florida by making a payment to the NAACP. Not much, either.

New Hampshire Democrats blew this one! Did they sign an agreement not to discuss the case, too?

11. I'd bet on it.
Were I the attorney for the Repuke Party (which I would never be, I can assure you), I'd insist on a confidentiality clause. That's standard procedure for any lawsuit that might embarrass the defendant publicly.

12. There has been a fair amount of publicity.
What do you think would have happened? A special procecutor appointed to implicate George Bush? I mean really, what are the chances? And even a "public" condemnation of White House involvement is only worth so much.

Mehlman is gone.
Rove is emasculated.
Bush is adrift.
A couple of guys are in jail.
The NH Repub party is substantially poorer today.

Let's call it a win.

2. So how much did they pay?
This is an admission of guilt by the RNC of it's
roll in dirty tricks.

3. Odd quote:
"As we have previously stated, the New Hampshire Republican State Committee deplores the phone jamming incident that took place in New Hampshire in 2002," Republican State Committee chairman Wayne Semprini said in a statement.

They deplore this kind of incident? Or the fact that they got caught paying for it to happen?

4. The Union leader article
Four years after the incident and two years after it was filed, the political hot potato known as the New Hampshire “phone-jamming” lawsuit came to an abrupt end today as the Democratic and Republican parties reached a settlement in a civil lawsuit.

Attorneys for both sides had been negotiating quietly for several weeks even as they prepared for a trial scheduled to begin on Monday at Hillsborough County Superior Court in Manchester.

The terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

...

The state Democratic Party filed a civil suit in 2004 and had hoped to find out who was behind the scandal.

State Democractic Chair Kathy Sullivan has repeatedly asked who was behind the scandal

13. money is the blood of the GOP, keeping them in court a few years and
Edited on Fri Dec-01-06 11:18 PM by caligirl
forcing them to spend money on courts and lawyers and settlements is less money they have for the party. Forcing them to empty their deep pockets for their crimes is only the beginning of whats coming their way.

Keep them in court as long as possible and spend their funds 'til they bleed dry.
