GOP Faces Struggle In 2008 Senate Races
MSNBC Dec 1, 2006

WASHINGTON - Election night 2006 was dreadful for Republican Senate candidates,
but things could be just as bad two years from now. As it looks now, the Republicans
face a difficult struggle to gain seats in the Senate in 2008.

When the new Congress convenes in January, there will be 49 Republicans in the
Senate and 51 Democrats (including nominal independents Sen.-elect Bernie
Sanders of Vermont and Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut.)

Of the Republican seats up for re-election, three are held by men who will be over
the age of 75 (Alaska's Ted Stevens, New Mexico's Pete Dominici, and Virginia's
John Warner). Another four are in states which Democratic presidential candidate
John Kerry carried in 2004. And four are in states (Colorado, Virginia, Minnesota
and New Hampshire) where democrats either elected senators on Nov 7 or did very
well up and down the state ballot.

1. We'll prolly gain seats in 08
But that doesn't matter to me if the Democrats make no progress between now and then as far investigation and so on are concerned.

2. Already The Spin Is On
There was a claim in the press today that because Dems took over 30 previously GOP House seats, they may lose them in 2 years because the districts were gerrymandered GOP, and the seats will easily revert to GOP control.

I don't think so. Iraqmire will go on at least 2 more years, and probably more. The problem won't go away, and the GOP has no interest in finding any solutions.

5. we'll lose a few of these
but not nearly enough for Republican to take control. There are also still some great pickup chances that we missed out on this time.

6. Especially if the GOP goes the
obstructionist route which they have been saying they will do. If people see that all they are going to do is try to stop things they will be out.

15. In Texas? Not likely unless Democrats gain control
They need to prohibit redistricting more than once every 10 years. Better yet shoot the justices responsible for allowing it to go through. We really can't condone that type of action. Best we can hope for those justices is that they live a miserable life from that point on. Investigate the hell out of Scalia, Thomas at the least.

7. This makes me think that maybe
Joe Leiberman wont' bolt, he would only be in the minority in '08 if he did.

8. 2008 is going to be a great year for Dems.
The war in Iraq will still be raging. Hard to imagine, but true.

Bush will be the most hated president of modern times (I know he is now, but more so).

The demographics favor us in 08.

If we don't nominate Hillary, we will win the White House.

It's going to be Act II of the Repudiation of George Bush.

20. If the war in Iraq is still raging in 2008 then the Democrats aren't doing their jobs.
Why would America elect more.? They have a shorty window of opportunity here and they damn well take advantage of it. "Democrats were not given a Mandate they were given a Chance"...B. Clinton

10. IMHO this new Democratic Congress will force paper trails on
Touchscreen and require an audit of say 5% of all votes.

IMHO the Dems lost seats in 2006 because of TS and no audits. There was so many house seats that the Dem was leading by a couple points in the polls but lost by a small number of votes.....

and is back in the Senate for anohter six years.

I really have a strong dislike for that man. The "let's all just get along" meme doesn't have any effect on me.

That is all.

13. Good
I looked at the list of GOP Senators up for re-election and went :puke:

What a wealth of bigotry and incompetence and arrogance to choose from.

I guess if I have to pick the one I want most gone - Chambliss.

16. I especially hope '08 will see the end of Toad Stevens.
I also hope that the very second the Democrats gain their 52nd seat, they arrange some sort of massive ritualized public humiliation for Lieberbush.

17. It'll take some effort, but I really want Inhofe out
Now that's Santorum's done, we should set our sights on ousting fellow GOP nutjob Inhofe, though it'll be tougher since Oklahoma's more red than Pennsylvania.

18. Pretty please...I'm begging
It can be done with the right Democrat.
I would love to see an all-out effort by environmental groups, netroots, and the party get behind this one.
