Bush acknowledges public anxiety on Iraq
Bush acknowledges public anxiety on Iraq
By JENNIFER LOVEN, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - President Bush said Saturday he understands that Americans are disturbed by persistent scenes of bloodshed and turmoil nearly four years after the war began, but promised he is helping to put Iraq "on a solid path to liberty and democracy."

Bush returned Thursday from an overseas trip that included a stop in Jordan to meet with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki. On Monday, he sees Abdul-Aziz al-Hakim, the Shiite leader of the largest bloc in Iraq's parliament, at the White House and next month is holding talks with Iraq's Sunni vice president, Tariq al-Hashemi.

"Many people in our country are wondering about the way forward," the president said in his Saturday radio address. "The work ahead will not be easy, yet by helping Prime Minister Maliki strengthen Iraq's democratic institutions and promote national reconciliation, our military leaders and diplomats can help put Iraq on a solid path to liberty and democracy."

Bush added: "The decisions we make in Iraq will be felt across the broader Middle East."

4. Is that the best he can do?
How did he guess Americans are upset over Iraq, anyway? One of his handlers must have told him, over an ice cream sundae.

7. All I care about is the safety of our troops.
I could give a rats ass about "liberty and democracy" in Iraq. It's obvious that those people are incapable of peace. This has been my opinion of the Middle East for many, many years. And, yes, I include Israel on that list. If the ordinary citizens really wanted peace, they would stop looking up to leaders who won't work for it. I truly believe that region may have reached the end of it's ability to evolve. Throw out the religious indoctrination, as in "bible", "torah", and "quran", and start all over.

8. Too late for any comment now, George. Just shut up and resign.
He is deeply delusional at this point, maybe just plain nuts.
A profoundly dangerous time.

9. Well, he got one thing right in that address.
"The decisions we make in Iraq will be felt across the broader Middle East."

I fear that Iraq will be the fuse that detonates a long period of unrest and violence in the Middle East. We are doing no good there at all.

Edited on Sat Dec-02-06 02:47 PM by LynnTheDem
in Iraq, that tens of thousands of US citizens are maimed and wounded and torn apart for life because of bush's LIES on Iraq, and bush's ILLEGAL "supreme crime" INVASION of Iraq, that 3000 US are DEAD because of bush's LIES on Iraq, and bush's ILLEGAL "supreme crime" INVASION of Iraq, that HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of citizens of Iraq are DEAD, MAIMED, torn apart for life because of bush's LIES on Iraq, and bush's ILLEGAL "supreme crime" INVASION of Iraq, that we are WITHOUT DOUBT LESS SAFE NOW than we ever have been...

...then maybe I'll bother listening to the MFing prick.

Edited on Mon Dec-04-06 12:02 AM by Arkana
"But, see, the problem is--I don't give a shit. I don't care what you think. You might say Iraq is a mess, but I don't think so--and what I say goes. It's all about me, all the time. Now if you'll excuse me, I got a dime bag a' nose candy calling my name from the office--and that Jim Beam ain't gon' drink itself."
