44. They will certainly try, but
this Congress won't approve any of them. One of them might have squeaked by the last Congress.

He's got about three weeks to dig up a horror that'll pass muster with the lame ducks. I doubt he'll be able to do it.

My guess is that the position will go unfilled and they'll blame the intransigence of the mean old Democrats, not the unsuitability of Stupid's appointments.

130. Before there can be a bush resignation the repubs must replace
cheney with a candidate for the next election, sooo, watch for that to happen. The repubs will be the ones to force the Idiot out for their own preservation.

Once again bush appeared to be plugged in to someone as he was speaking at press conference with the Shite leader. His pauses were weird. My gawd that guy has serious problems. How can the repubs keep lying to themselves? That is why I am looking for a cheney replacement before R's demand bush step down.

John Bolton To Resign

Dec 4, 2006 7:34 am US/Mountain

(AP) WASHINGTON Unable to win Senate confirmation, U.N. Ambassador John Bolton will step down when his recess appointment expires soon, the White House said Monday.

Bolton's nomination has languished in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee for more than a year, blocked by Democrats and several Republicans.

President Bush gave Bolton the job temporarily in August 2005, while Congress was in recess. But the appointment expires when Congress formally adjourns, no later than early January.

26. AP:Bush accepts Bolton's U.N. resignation (didn't have the votes in the senate)
By TERENCE HUNT, AP White House Correspondent
4 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - Unable to win Senate confirmation, U.N. Ambassador John Bolton will step down when his recess appointment expires soon, the White House said Monday.

Bolton's nomination has languished in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee for more than a year, blocked by Democrats and several Republicans. Sen. Lincoln Chafee (news, bio, voting record), a moderate Republican who lost in the midterm elections Nov. 7 that swept Democrats to power in both houses of Congress, was adamantly opposed to Bolton.

President Bush gave Bolton the job temporarily in August 2005, while Congress was in recess. But the appointment expires when Congress formally adjourns, no later than early January.

Although Bush could not give Bolton another recess appointment, the White House was believed to be exploring other ways of keeping him in the job, perhaps by giving him a title other than ambassador. But Bolton informed the White House he intended to leave when his current appointment expires, White House deputy press secretary Dana Perino said.

I expected more of a childish tantrum, not because he thought Bolton was so great, but rather because this way it's as if he's saying, "I was wrong, again."

What a grand way to begin our week. I can only imagine how things are going to be once we actually hold the majority.

Perhaps, but now, they own one position LESS.

And it could well be that if bush doesn't give the new Democratic Senate a decent nominee, then maybe we just won't have one for awhile. Finally, at age 60, the spoiled little boy's going to HAVE to start learning how to play ball with others. For the first time in his long, spoiled, coddled, arrogant, spoon-fed, snot-nosed little life. Better late than never, I guess.

87. Good point... Why today?
First thing Monday morning is rather odd... If they had waited a few hours, it wouldn't be a topic of conversation at various news shows tonight, let alone The Daily Show or Colbert Report.

Did they not want to have two resignation stories on Friday? Did Bolton play golf over the weekend and get a sweet high salary job at a think-tank? Stop laughing... maybe it would be at a place that used the word "think" in an ironic sense...

Now we have Condi and Cheney left (there are many others, but those are the largest ones, I think). Who'll be next? My money is on Condi. I'm just sorry I already broke open the champagne bottle for Rumsfeld. I also don't see Tony Snow lasting 'til the bitter end, either...

whether he hands in a resignation or just walks off quietly into the night, or attends a going away party at the White House.

Is bush going to hand in his resignation in Jan 09, assuming he isn't impeached first?

Did Clinton hand in his resignation in Dec 2000?

This is weird, not news.

The UN doesn't need one more representative of the 'stick two fingers up at the rest of the world' wing of the Republican Party.

I read that Bush is blaming Bolton's resignation on the non-cooperation of 'a handful of senators'. I imagine a 'handful' must be the new word for 'over 50', as if it was just a handful, he could get confirmed with no problems.

GOOD, anyway!

has shamed himself enough at the UN already. Colin needs to retire quietly and think about how he was the primary enabler for all this treason. Without Colin, Bush had no chance against Gore (I know, I know he lost anyway). Colin was the only reason Bush got moderate votes in 2000. Everything over the last 6 years falls squarely on Powell. Everything Bush has done is Colin's fault. We new Bush was scum, but we hoped Colin wouldn't roll over for him.

93. Lieberman To Replace Bolton?
Look at the timing of this. Why is Bolton resigning before the new Congress is sworn in? I read a report speculating that Lieberman might now be put up as his replacement. If that should happen as he would be seen as a consensus candidate for that position, the Republican Governor of Connecticut would get to put in a new Senator, thus tipping the scales. Of course, this is just a guess, but I NEVER get giddy about anything that happens with these criminals, especially the way it is timed.

98. Article: Departing Bolton Held Up Anti-Slavery Measure (!)
Departing Bolton Held Up Anti-Slavery Measure
By Justin Rood - December 4, 2006, 10:27 AM
Ah, the Man with the Iron Mustache is leaving the international arena -- but not before attempting a thoroughly embarrassing and wholly unsympathetic maneuver.

Less than two weeks before the White House announced his resignation, Ambassador John Bolton's U.N. mission blocked an effort to celebrate the end of slavery in our hemisphere.

Next year marks the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the trans-Atlantic slave trade. As far as anniversaries go, it seems like a good one to recognize, doesn't it? It should not be a real bone of contention to say that one is against slavery; and, upon hearing of the anniversary of its abolition in one region, to acknowledge that as a good thing; to recognize the cost of the practice in the millions of lives uprooted and forced into extreme suffering; and to celebrate the efforts which ended the horrific practice.

To do so, a number of Caribbean countries got together to propose a commemorative resolution before the United Nations.

Guess who refused to sign? That's right: Ambassador John Bolton's United States.

In a letter, the Bolton-led U.S. mission to the UN explained their objection to two words (the U.S. preferred "the emphasis" to "emphasizing") in the document. (You can read the document here.) After a couple dozen U.S. congresspeople kicked up a fuss -- most of them members of the Congressional Black Caucus -- the U.S. mission reportedly backed down, and consented to sign the document without their preferred language, according to sources close to the process.

100. About time he left
Putting him in as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations was a mistake from the get-go. The man absolutely lacked the qualifications for the job.

Bolton just does not have the disposition to be in a diplomatic position. The guy has a hair-trigger temper, and anybody who's ever worked with him knows it, particularly if they're subordinate in rank. (He shows a different face to his colleagues and superiors.) His political stances are true-blue, hard-core neocon.

John Bolton got this appointment by being a loyal foot soldier for George W. Bush. Nothing more, nothing less.

110. Well, ya know that moustash is interesting
Edited on Mon Dec-04-06 02:25 PM by Jose Diablo
I was thinking, that if the moustash could be removed still attached to the upper lip, it would be easy to scrap away the flesh with a seashell, then take ground-up acorn shells and use these in a coffee maker to make tannic acid and cure the skin from the upper lip. Then all that would be needed is some leather conditioner like used to soften the leather on a baseball glove and viola, a perfect substitute for toilet paper. Ever feel those cured pigskin gloves, they're very soft and pliable.

Keep it washed and ready by the toilet, then carefully after each use, wash it with that handsoap in a bottle and dry it with a hair drier. This guy could be useful yet.

Edit: We really should start to think about ways to not have to cut down so many trees, saving on having to use toilet paper is a good way to save the ecology. Each of us, in our own small way can contribute.

Maybe I should patent the idea of a reusable ass-wipe. Think about it, the worlds first reusable ass-wipe. I'd even get a trademark, "The Bolton Reusable Ass-wipe". I could become a millionare overnight. Capitalism at it's finest. I'd even discount it here at DU so they could make a little money too.

Even have some TV spots on Fox, "You too can feel the soft cleaning action of the Bolton Reusable Ass-wipe, call 800-xxx-xxxx and get yours today, for a limited time, only $19.95".

120. I can see it now, over time the word Bolton
Edited on Mon Dec-04-06 04:02 PM by Jose Diablo
Would evolve into a slang for using the "John", like some fancy dressed woman at some ritzy affair, the woman instead of saying she needs to powder her nose, would say , "I need to use the Bolton". And right away her meaning would be understood, she needs to take a dump but not resorting to some vulgar words that bring an image of her squatting over a porceline bowl and dumping brown ingots into the recepticle. See, thats good etiquette, not saying what you really mean, but being understood. Everybody knows those ritzy dressed women, well their shit don't stink and how they are taught to speak, it re-inforces these ideals we have of their existence.

If men would create an image of their one and only taking a dump, there would be far fewer marrages and the ones that did go ahead with the ceremony, they would not be surprised a few days later when they come out of the shower only to find her unconcerned that he sees her taking a dump. Women are less idealistic and simplistic than we men, I think. She would probably say, "Honey, pass me the Bolton".

Or some guy calling out to his wife would say, "Rita, will you change this kid? He smells like a Bolton". Or some guy when he need to pass gas would say, "Here Kid, pull my finger. Yuk, Yuk, I just cut a Bolton". Then the kids would giggle as like today when making or hearing a joke about the very human need to pass gas.

It's how language evolves you know.

Edit: After reading how Bolton enjoyed watching other men screw his wife, I think it's right and fitting his name be turned into bathroom humor for taking a shit. It would also be a womans way to give warnings to their husbands, don't disrespect me or I can turn your name into crap.

110th congress should give no quarter. We need an Ambassador that works with other nations not dictates to or threatens. Diplomacy in the U.N. who would have thunk it. Anyway the RESUME must include team player, not Bush rubber stamp mouth piece.

127. Bye, Bye Mr Pastry
Bolton's departure is a great opportunity for the US to gain back our friends overseas. Many do not realize that before 9/11 we were a friend to the rest of the world. Hopefully we will now be ready to commit to Africa. Black Hawk Down really killed American support for humanitarian aid. Now is our chance.Another liar and war monger bites the dust. Now I wait for the Grand Finale when will Big Bad Bush leave? The world will be a more peacful place without these crooks.

is straight to the CURB!
Good riddance, you obnoxious asshole. You'll be missed just about as much as an ass pimple. Not that the next clown to follow this assgoblin is going to be much better, but it doesn't get much worse than assclown Bolton.
Man, the word 'ass' just seems to apply so nicely to him.
