Levin (D-MI) to seek another Senate term in '08

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061204/ap_on_el_se/senate_levin_1

Democratic Sen. Carl Levin (news, bio, voting record), the incoming chairman of the Armed Services Committee, said Monday he will seek re-election in 2008.

The 72-year-old Michigan lawmaker was widely expected to seek a sixth term and will enter the race a heavy favorite. With Democrats winning control of the Senate, Levin will take the helm of the Armed Services panel, giving him a major role in shaping
Iraq policy.

The Detroit lawmaker has called for troop withdrawals from Iraq beginning within four to six months. He has criticized the Bush administration for making the war open-ended, saying the White House has provided the Iraqis with a blank check with the presence of U.S. troops.

Levin said he hopes to win another term, citing his work on Armed Services and on issues crucial to Michigan's automotive and manufacturing industries.

1. Good! I hope to add to our majority in '08 when many more Reps
are up for re-election than Dems, and so the fewer open seats on our side the better.

2. Not surprised. Now that he finally gets to do some oversight
again, it is no wonder he wants to go for another term.

3. not to be cruel

but I have a suggestion to him to cut back on the fatty foods a bit. That should prolong his career more than anything else :-)

He looked the same way in 1994 when I personally met him. :)

5. Levin is such a great senator
I wonder who the GOP is going to get to run against him-they don't waste a lot of cash running against Levin because he wins so overwhelmingly each time. They thought Stabenow was vulnerable, so they put their money behind Bouchard. Levin is never considered vulnerable, his seat is pretty secure. Most swing voters like him, and he has a reputation for strict oversight of the defense department (especially during the Reagan years-he uncovered the $900 toilet seats and such).

6. He is more popular than Stabenow, and she easily won over a fairly likeable candidate
He will win easily.

7. I know that Levin is one of I think 12 Dems running in 08. Are any
of the others this safe? I assume that Kerry is one of the 12. Who else? If ours are all safe seats, we can really hone in on defeating the Pukes big time.

11. Can;t say enough good things about him and his brother
I was working the delegates convention and after the crowds had fled for more entertaining places Carl and his brother Sander were there in the hall picking up posters and other debris left by the crowd. I mean how "man of the people" can you get?

Best senator we have IMHO.

12. There were rumors that Jennifer Granholm may run for his seat...
...if Carl were to step down, but not now. We'll re-elect Carl with a landslide. He's a much better senator than Stabenow.

18. I think Blanchard would run for the seat if Levin stepped down.
He'd make a good senator.

14. My favorite aspect of Levin.
The thing I love most about this guy is I really think the Goopers FEAR him. Can you dig it? I knew that you could....
