Congress votes to save internment camps
WASHINGTON - Notorious internment camps where Japanese-Americans were kept behind barbed wire during World War II will be preserved as stark reminders of how the United States turned on some of its citizens in a time of fear.

As one of its last acts, the Republican-led Congress on Tuesday sent
President Bush legislation establishing a $38 million program of National Park Service grants to restore and pay for research at 10 camps where the government sent people of Japanese descent after the attack on Pearl Harbor.

6. Now you know why Poppy was crying...
He's been unable to talk his "stupid" spawn out of dragging the Bush family
name into the annals of the Hall of Shame, featuring all the mass murders listed
in Wold history. Yep, Bush Cheney may even dethrone Hitler's 1st place title as
the WORLD'S WORST BUTCHER!

7. Not to nitpick, but I'd list Stalin as the #1 butcher
Then Mao, then Hitler, then an assortment of rogues, including a few US presidents.

Just going by the numbers.

9. It may be a tossup between Stalin and Mao
Edited on Tue Dec-05-06 09:24 PM by Art_from_Ark
I don't know if either of them kept a direct score sheet of how many people they killed, either directly or indirectly. But it is certain that even before the disastrous Great Leap Backward and (Anti-)Cultural Revolution, Mao was responsible for hundreds of thousands or even millions of deaths from the time he began the Chinese civil war in the 1920s until he finally wrested power from the Nationalists in 1949. For example, part of his strategy during the Japanese occupation was to massacre Nationalist supporters, then pin the blame on the Japanese.

14. Just because of the various body counts...
They usually put Stalin at the top, but as observed above, Mao might also take the title.

The usual number you see tossed around is 6 million killed by Hitler -- Stalin starved 10 million kulaks to death in a state-engineered famine. And that was just one Stalin policy!

3. And they're funding the new ones, too.
 on saving the WWII camps- because we've obviously learned/remembered nothing.

 on Chimp's illegal prisons.

4. The camps should be restored, period.
My position with respect to these internment camps is the same as my position on Gitmo when the war is finished.

Turn Gitmo into a memorial, a stark reminder of the US government's brutality.
