NYT/AP: FEMA Appeals Katrina Housing Order
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Published: December 5, 2006

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Bush administration is challenging a court order requiring it to make housing payments to thousands of families whose homes were damaged by Hurricane Katrina.

U.S. District Judge Richard J. Leon said last week that confusing, often contradictory letters to hurricane victims from the Federal Emergency Management Agency didn't explain why housing funding was cut. He said that violated the Constitution, and he ordered the agency to restart the program immediately.

FEMA said Tuesday it would appeal that ruling....

''If FEMA worked half as hard helping survivors get back on their feet as they do at dodging their responsibilities, thousands of families could be back home by now,'' ACORN president Maude Hurd said in a statement released Tuesday night....

Leon criticized the agency's handling of the housing program and described the process as ''Kafkaesque.''...

3. Most likely FEMA money has been stripped from the Treasury
and has already been spent on this useless war.
The appeal is a delay tactic because they don't have the money to send.

A black eye to the supposed strength of America!

Meanwhile, Katrina victims continue to wait for assistance that may never come.

2. no bucks for people
only for corporations, especially those corporations good at killing human beings. Can't be paying out money for human welfare, we have too much devestation to cause.
I am sick to death of money wasted on warfare but none for human needs. Time for people to take back what belongs to them, their own country.

4. We can't spend millions on our own people
Because we have to spend billions waging wars around the globe.

Just so we're all clear on this: Americans are homeless and starving so that we can prosecute a war against two countries that didn't attack us.
