Iraqi politicians play down significance of recommendations by U.S. panel

BAGHDAD, Iraq There's little sign of urgency from Iraqi leaders following release of a high-level report that says American policy in Iraq must change.

A close aide to the prime minister is seeking to downplay the significance of the recommendations. He says Iraq has enough oil resources to survive any reduction in U-S economic aid and that Iraqi forces are already well on their way to taking the lead role in security operations.

He believes the recommendations will lead to a "revision" in strategy in Iraq -- but not a "drastic change."
