Cisco to ship 20% top execs to India
BS Reporters / New Delhi December 07, 2006

In a move to make India one of its global strategic centres, US-based computer network equipment major Cisco Systems today said it would shift 20 per cent of its top executives to India. It also proposes to make India “Cisco Globalisation Centre East.”

Addressing a press conference with Telecom Minister Dayanidhi Maran, John Chambers, Cisco’s chairman and CEO, said, “India is a very important market for Cisco’s global growth strategy. Half of the future headcount growth will come from India and the country will contribute about 5 per cent to our revenues in the next 3-4 years. The country has a highly skilled workforce, innovative customers, supportive government, and world-class partners.”

Wim Elfrink, the company’s third-most senior official, will be its new chief globalisation officer and relocate to Bangalore next year. Elfrink, however, will retain his position of senior vice-president of customer advocacy and report to John Chambers.

The company also intends to triple its headcount in India over the next three to five years. It has 2,000-6,000 employees in the country at present. About 95 per cent of the headcount addition will be accounted for by Indians.

7. They will probably live ...
in a compound (generally called Colonies-a British holdover). As long as you never leave the compound-you will live in splender, like royality. But then again, you have to step over the shit in the street to get to the compound.

17. For Many, It Will Be Moving Back Home
I think they will be sending Indian expatriate employees who want to move back home.
When they do, they won't be living in neighborhoods like that.
The proceeds from selling a Bay Area home should go quite a bit farther over there.
They will still have their stock options, and I doubt there will be any reduction in pay.

19. implied
It's implied. Ultimately, they'll go with the cheapest labor. I hope they take my boss first, and that he accidently drinks the water there.

9. The eyebrow raiser is they are sending executives - 1 in 5.
I doubt that will turn out well.

as others pointed out on here already, it's a good thing to open they eyes of the executives. How many will really want to live in India.

11. Where does it say that the executives will get an Indian salary?
Do they keep their American wages or do they go to an Indian pay scale?

12. Why would they be expected to get an indian salary.
I supect they would flee Cisco if that were to happen.

As it stands I suspect they will flee cisco anyway just knowing they will be sent to live in india.

15. Why not just outsource the executive jobs to Indians?
If a company outsources its technical and administrative jobs, why not the executive ones?

18. I suspect that's what they are doing.
When they can't find executives willing to take lower wages and live in India, they will hire Indians.

So I'm being nice to them. But this is indeed the start of more outsourcing.
