Bush: To win in Iraq, beat extremists
Edited on Thu Dec-07-06 12:13 PM by maddezmom
WASHINGTON - President Bush said Thursday that a bipartisan panel's call for a major course change in Iraq was an important document, but just one of several reports he will consider as he charts a new strategy.

Standing alongside chief Iraq war ally Tony Blair of Britain, the president acknowledged that, "It's bad in Iraq."

Both Bush and Blair agreed that success in Iraq may depend on victory over extremists across the broader Middle East.

The two leaders met a day after the Iraq Study Group headed by former Secretary of State James A. Baker III and former Democratic Rep. Lee Hamilton issued a report saying their war policies had failed and a major course correction was needed, including beginning to withdraw combat troops.

7. That's what we're trying to do, starting with results on 11/7 . . .
but unfortunately, though we got rid of many extremists, it seems to have only hardened the resolve of those remaining. Maybe when Pelosi and Reid take over in January, we'll see better progress, especially in regards the ultra-extremists in the West Wing.

11. Transcript here:
QUESTION: Mr. President, the Iraq Study Group described the situation in Iraq as grave and deteriorating. You said that the increase in attacks is unsettling. That will convince many people that you're still in denial about how bad things are in Iraq and question your sincerity about changing course.

BUSH: It's bad in Iraq. That help?

(LAUGHTER)

QUESTION: Why did it take others to say it before you've been willing to acknowledge it to the world?

BUSH: You know, in all due respect, I've been saying it a lot. I understand how tough it is, and I've been telling the American people how tough it is. And they know how tough it is.

And the fundamental question is: Do we have a plan to achieve our objective? Are we willing to change as the enemy has changed?

And what the Baker-Hamilton study has done is it shows good ideas as to how to go forward. What our Pentagon is doing is figuring out ways to go forward -- all aiming to achieve our objective.

Make no mistake about it: I understand how tough it is, sir.

BUSH: I talk to the families who die. I understand there's sectarian violence.

Give him an F+... The lil' king of all war criminals couldn't care less to understand that before starting his war of aggression against a country that never attacked US, and we were millions in the streets telling him just that...

Two war criminals on teevee today...

20. So can we invade Syria and Iran yet?
The obvious solution is to invade Syria and Iran. I'll bet that the minute we do so--no...the exact instant that the invasion of Syria and Iran begins, Iraq will blossom into a thriving American-style democracy. Once Iraq is a shining beacon of hope and freedom to its neighbors, the 'extremists' everywhere will convert to Xtianity and the rapture can begin.

Did I miss anything?

Bush says new approach needed in Iraq

WASHINGTON - President Bush, admitting that "it's bad in Iraq," acknowledged Thursday that the United States needs a new approach in the unpopular war and promised to unveil details in an upcoming speech.

Bush said he was disappointed in the progress in Iraq, but continued to oppose direct U.S. talks with Iran or Syria and remained steadfastly committed to spreading democracy across the Middle East.

"I do know that we have not succeeded as fast as we wanted to succeed," Bush said, standing alongside British Prime Minister Tony Blair, his chief ally in the war. "I do understand that process is not as rapid as I had hoped."

He seems to be saying that we are doing what we want to do, but not fast enough. What damn "process" is he referring to? Genocide?

30. Succeeded?
Having failed to clearly and completely define the goal before beginning the boondoggle in Iraq, Bush2 cannot logically claim "success" - now or ever.

What he has done is kill almost 3,000 of our military men and women, maim tens of thousands of others, kill unknown thousands of Iraqis, displace well over a million more, severely worsen the stability of the Middle East, flush approximately $350 billion down the toilet, recruit hoards of terrorists, overextend our armed forces and ruin our country's diplomatic standing in the world.
