5. Well the onus then stays on him and with him goes the Republicans in 2008
Edited on Fri Dec-08-06 05:14 PM by MessiahRp
"As he said this morning, he is the commander in chief. He reminds us of that all the time. And we acknowledge that," Reid said.

Watch how downright "Democrat" Party-like the Republicans start to become on this war with Bush lobbing grenades into his own party on this issue.

The conservatives are the clear losers here. Bush runs the policy so the Neo-Cons still control the war, the Democrats control Congress. Congrats on selling your morals and priorities out to the right... you now have zero say in Washington.

9. Bush will not change until someone puts a gun to his head.
At the present time he is still in power. This will not change until January and then it will be up to the Democrats to put pressure on him. Someone also needs to find a way to put the heat on Cheney and Rice. This will be difficult to do because they have very little to lose.

11. The "fruit salad" metaphor battle has begun. Look at this unbelievable statement:

I understand that Secretary Baker's comment yesterday about the fruit salad is descriptive, I think, of how they feel about it; however, I don't think the president considers it as any type of food," Perino said.

"I think that he is going to digest it, however, and he will take the time that he needs in order to figure out how he wants to move forward."

W.House won't accept all Baker group proposals

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The White House on Friday dismissed former Secretary of State James Baker's appeal that his Iraq recommendations be largely adopted as a whole and said President George W. Bush was considering various proposals for a change in course.

Democrats who will take control of the U.S. Congress in January piled pressure on Bush for a major shift in strategy after meeting him at the White House along with Republicans now in their waning days in power.

"Someone has to get the message to this man," said Nevada Democratic Sen. Harry Reid, soon to be the Senate majority leader, who has praised the work of the Iraq Study Group that issued its report on Wednesday.

In testimony to the Senate Armed Services Committee on Thursday, Baker urged Congress to accept most if not all of the report's 79 recommendations as part of a comprehensive strategy and said Bush should do the same.

"I hope we don't treat this as a fruit salad, and say, 'I like this but I don't like that,'" Baker said.

But White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said the report by the group, led by Baker and former Democratic congressman Lee Hamilton, would be considered along with internal reviews being conducted by the Pentagon, the State Department and the National Security Council.

Bush's goal is to outline a shift in course in a speech to be delivered before the Christmas holiday. He has given a cool response to two key recommendations -- talks with Iran and Syria and pulling back U.S. combat forces by early 2008.

Baker to *, "Eat your veggies, Jr. They're good for you."

Whiny Brat, "WAAAAAAHHHHH, I DON'T WANNA!!"

"But Junior, you have to."

"Ummm, I'll have one pea, one bite of spinach, a carrot and two string beans, ok?"

(Baker starts thinking to himself - "Hmm, maybe it would have more effect if I rolled up this report and whacked him on the head with it. Hmm...")

13. when will Congress Just Say No to more $$$ for *'s Folly?
they can talk all they want, but it seems that every time, they act like cowards by approving yet another round of funding. Don't want war? Don't give the little shithead the $$ for it. Problem solved!

15. They will make Pelosi president
before they cut off funds.

Cutting off funds would be politically (and troop wise) disastrous -- since they don't have the power to force the troops back to the US, they will be stuck in Iraq with no funding, no ammunition, and be sitting ducks.

16. well, obviously, they can allocate funds only for returning the troops
as well, huge amounts of money should be given to the Iraqis for reparations and rebuilding of their infrastructure--but by IRAQI contractors.

17. They could
but Bush could refuse to bring them home.

Then we have media reports of starving, weaponless troops in Iraq due to the Democratic Congress refusing to fund them.

14. The only way to get * to change his plan is to make him think it was his (brilliant) idea.
He is too small a person, too insecure, too intimidated, too proud and, frankly, too stupid, to make a change based on anyone else's input, no matter how worthy. Especially input from anyone with such direct ties to his dad. It'll never happen.

Now we know the captain is staying on that Titanic come hell or high water (and we all know what happened after that).
