SENATOR INHOFE ANNOUNCES PUBLIC RELEASE OF “SKEPTIC’S GUIDE TO DEBUNKING GLOBAL WARMING"
U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works: SENATOR INHOFE ANNOUNCES PUBLIC RELEASE OF “SKEPTIC’S GUIDE TO DEBUNKING GLOBAL WARMING”
EPW FACT OF THE DAY: FRIDAY, DECEMBER 08, 2006

Washington D.C. - Senator James Inhofe (R-Okla.), the outgoing Chairman of Environment & Public Works Committee, is pleased to announce the public release of the Senate Committee published booklet entitled “A Skeptic’s Guide to Debunking Global Warming Alarmism. Hot & Cold Media Spin Cycle: A Challenge To Journalists who Cover Global Warming.”...

The color glossy 64 page booklet -- previously was only available in hardcopy to the media and policy makers -- includes speeches, graphs, press releases and scientific articles refuting catastrophe climate fears presented by the media, the United Nations, Hollywood and former Vice President turned-foreign-lobbyist Al Gore....

***

The book, which features web links to all supporting documentation, also serves as a handbook to identify the major players in media bias when it comes to poor climate science reporting. The guide presents a reporter’s virtual who’s-who’s of embarrassing and one-sided media coverage, with a focus on such reporters as CBS News “60 Minutes” Scott Pelley, ABC News reporter Bill Blakemore, CNN’s Miles O’Brien, and former NBC Newsman Tom Brokaw.

Senator Inhofe’s “Skeptic’s Guide” also includes hard hitting critiques of the New York Times, Time Magazine, Newsweek, Associated Press, Reuters, the LA Times, the Chicago Tribune, and the Washington Post.

Senator Inhofe has challenged the media in a series of speeches and hearings to stop the unfounded hype.

“The American people are fed up with the media for promoting the idea that former Vice President Al Gore represents the scientific “consensus” that SUV’s and the modern American way of life have somehow created a 'climate emergency' that only United Nations bureaucrats and wealthy Hollywood liberals can solve,” Senator Inhofe said in October....

31. Of course not. Exxon Mobil has only the highest production values
and they've been doing this for 20 years now - more like 40, if you count the work the 'independent ' lobbyists did on trying to persuade the public that tobacco was not a health problem.

44. Great news that this is out...
The anti-global warming nuts have broken the sophist's first rule: never make any official statement of your position or platform. Now this thing will be debunked hard from every angle and the anti-GW argument will be eviscerated. In a few years the anti-GWers will be backpedaling from this booklet and pushing different crackpot theories.

49. Appropriately coincides with GOP - - DESTRUCTION - - of - - EPA - - LIBRARIES
EPA Scrubbing Library Website to Make Reports Unavailable - - Agency Sells $40,000 Worth of Furniture and Equipment for $350

Agency Sells $40,000 Worth of Furniture and Equipment for $350

In defiance of Congressional requests to immediately halt closures of library collections, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is purging records from its library websites, making them unavailable to both agency scientists and outside researchers, according to documents released today by Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER). At the same time, EPA is taking steps to prevent the re-opening of its shuttered libraries, including the hurried auctioning off of expensive bookcases, cabinets, microfiche readers and other equipment for less than a penny on the dollar.

In a letter dated November 30, 2006, four incoming House Democratic committee chairs demanded that EPA Administrator Stephen Johnson assure them "that the destruction or disposition of all library holdings immediately ceased upon the Agency's receipt of this letter and that all records of library holdings and dispersed materials are being maintained." On the very next day, December 1st, EPA de-linked thousands of documents from the website for the Office of Prevention, Pollution and Toxic Substances (OPPTS) Library, in EPA's Washington D.C. Headquarters.

......Meanwhile, in what appears to be an effort to limit Congressional options, EPA is taking steps to prevent the re-opening of the several libraries that it has already completely shuttered. In its Chicago office, which formerly hosted one of the largest regional libraries, EPA ordered that all furniture and furnishings (down to the staplers and pencil sharpeners) be sold immediately. Despite an acquisition cost of $40,000 for the furniture and equipment, a woman bought the entire lot for $350. The buyer also estimates that she will re-sell the merchandise for $80,000.

The GOP approach to environmental truth is definitely a two-pronged approach.

5. ironic in light of tonight's bill moyers:
"Is God Green?"

A new holy war is growing within the conservative evangelical community, with implications for both the global environment and American politics. For years liberal Christians and others have made protection of the environment a moral commitment. Now a number of conservative evangelicals are joining the fight, arguing that man's stewardship of the planet is a biblical imperative and calling for action to stop global warming.

But they are being met head-on by opposition from their traditional evangelical brethren who adamantly support the Bush administration in downplaying the threat of global warming and other environmental perils. The political stakes are high: Three out of every four white evangelical voters chose George W. Bush in 2004. "Is God Green?" explores how a serious split among conservative evangelicals over the environment and global warming could reshape American politics.

"Out of 925 recent articles in peer-review scientific journals about global warming, there was no disagreement. Zero." - Al Gore, An Inconvenient Truth

They can whine and cry about alarmism, but no one does alarmism better than the GOP. Facts are facts, and any person who has even the smallest interest in the environment believes in the existence of Global Warming.

.. is that assholes like Inhofe NEVER have to own up to the fact that they were wrong, and that their obstinacy cost lives and money.

None of the politicians or pundits who crowed about how easy the war would be have had to eat their words in public.

Inhofe will be dead by the time Oklahoma is ocean-front property, so he won't have to eat his words.

17. Look at the sources
I scanned it quickly and will defitely read through it. However, take a look at the sources. Most of them are local newspapers quoting Imhoff and either supporting his views or reportin on his views. The lion's share of the sources are op-ed pieces. There's really no scientific data here.

It is like a lot of sources that you find in a many conservtive pundit works, especially the ones that come out of Regnery Press. All the sources for a given pundit's book are other right pundits and from conservative putlets like Fox News, The Washington Times, and The New York Post.

33. So there's a giant conspiracy,
orchestrated by anti-capitalist ex-Communists and Socialists who have infiltrated the environmental movement? The conspiracy includes the thousands of scientists throughout the world over the past 30 years who have conducted the studies, their grad students, their universities, all of their peers who reviewed the work, virtually all of the media, Al Gore, and Tony Blair?

ALL, I mean every bit, of the peer-reviewed scientific data support global warming and most of it a human contribution to it. You can choose to believe that, or, on the other hand, you can choose to believe a few op-ed articles and a giant global conspiracy. Inhofe evidently has chosen the latter.

Credit to Neal Boortz for explaining the conspiracy concept yesterday. Before then, I never quite understood the who/how/or why of all this allegedly false scientific data.

Many folks I know are saying Winter's are not anywhere near what they used to be for snow and cold. Last year was one of the first that many folks can recall where the St. Lawrence Seaway did NOT really freeze over and we only had to have our driveway plowed twice and even that was only like 8 inches of snow.
