Uruguay extradites 'Dirty War' suspects
MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay, Dec. 8 Uruguay Friday extradited to Argentina six suspects accused of human rights violations during the countries' former military dictatorships, El Pais reported.

The six men -- former police and military officers -- are accused of abducting 11 Uruguayan dissidents in Argentina in the 1970s, when both countries were ruled by the military.

During Argentina's so-called Dirty War, some 30,000 people were killed or disappeared. Uruguay ' s own military dictatorship at the time reportedly cooperated with leaders in Argentina to capture and imprison political dissidents from its neighboring nation.

1. Looking forward to hearing more about this. Very interesting.
This is an important time for these things to FINALLY start getting the attention which should have been there long, long ago. Hope more people will start their awakenings to the deeper reality of what has been happening all this time.

Just discovered there are some declassified documents which Bill Clinton had requested on the Government of Argentina and the Dirty Wars, and they were actually completed through the efforts of Colin Powell in the State Department under George W. Bush. Accomplished without any fanfare, too. I just stumbled across this in a search for more on Argentina's Dirty Wars and Uruguay.

Document 2: Subject: GOA Silent on Uruguay Revelation of Terrorist Plot, November 2, 1976

Full Document (PDF)

In July and September 1976, more than 50 Uruguayans disappeared in Buenos Aires. On October 28, the Uruguayan security forces announced that the so-called disappearances were actually a plot by subversives to infiltrate Uruguay and carry out a series of assassinations. This cable from Ambassador Robert Hill in Argentina reveals that the plot was actually carried out by the Uruguayan security forces, who captured refugees in cooperation with Argentine security forces and forced them to stage a mock attack on Uruguay.
