(Following up on a death threat) Taliban gunmen kill 5 family members
GHWANDO, Afghanistan - Following up on a death threat, Taliban militants broke into a house and fatally shot two teachers and three other family members, bringing to 20 the number of educators slain in attacks this year, officials and a relative said Saturday.

~snip~

The Taliban attack on two teachers, who were sisters living in the same house, happened overnight in a village in the Narang district of eastern Kunar province.

After climbing over the home's outer wall with a ladder, gunmen killed the two teachers, their mother and grandmother and a 20-year-old male relative and wounded another younger male relative, said Dr. Ghaleb, a family relative who like many Afghans goes by one name.

The sisters had been warned in a letter from the Taliban to quit teaching, said Gulam Ullah Wekar, the provincial education director. It warned the women that their work as teachers went Islam, and if they continued they would "end up facing the penalty."

2. Only 5 days ago - Laura Bush
"Especially impressive are the strides made by the women of Afghanistan. Afghan women now serve as government ministers and lead as provincial governors," she said. They are entrepreneurs, educators, farmers, activists, lawyers and community health workers. She added, "Women are now reclaiming their place with men at the center of Afghan society."

3. I guess I'll have to be the first to criticize the Taliban...
since the above posters are busy attacking Pickles. I'm no fan of the first lady, but don't you two think you should reserve some of your anger for the people who actually MURDERED these teachers?

The Taliban needs to be wiped from the face of the earth. They are not human, and there is no way for them to redeem themselves and become civilized. If we re-deploy our troops from Iraq to Afghanistan we can do it with NATO's help.

We are distracted in Iraq. There is a real terrorist force that needs eliminating.

6. Keep in mind
that attacking the Taliban goes without saying (except for the dumbasses that believe all these stories are CIA psyops or some such bullshit).

The problem is however that Laura, like other defenders of this administration's policies fail to realize we have not accomplished anything in either place.

7. Okay, I don't support the
war in Iraq, but I support the war in Afghanistan. Can you please explain to me how we could not have gone to war against the Taliban with what happened on 9/11? Let's keep this real ok?
