Saddam's Nephew Escapes Iraqi Prison
hmmmm, wonder if this happened while Rummy was in Iraq??

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) -

A nephew of Saddam Hussein serving a life sentence for financing insurgents and possessing bombs escaped from prison Saturday in northern Iraq with the help of a police officer, authorities said.

Sectarian attacks killed at least 20 people, including five who died in a suicide car bombing outside a Shiite shrine in Karbala, police said. Officers also found 39 bullet-riddled bodies in Baghdad that apparently were victims of revenge killings by Sunni Arabs and Shiites.

The escape by Saddam's nephew underlined one of the problems facing the U.S. military as it tries to train enough Iraqi security personnel so U.S. troops can go home: the ability of Sunni Arab insurgents and Shiite militiamen to infiltrate Iraqi police forces.

Ayman Sabawi, son of Saddam's half brother Sabawi Ibrahim Hassan al-Tikriti, escaped from a prison 45 miles west of the northern city of Mosul in the afternoon with the help of a policeman, said a local police commander, Brig. Abdul Karim al-Jubouri.

4. Iraq prison chief held after Saddam nephew escapes
BAGHDAD, Dec 10 (Reuters) - An Iraqi prison chief and his deputy were under arrest on Sunday after Saddam Hussein's nephew, accused of funding the Sunni insurgency, escaped jail a day earlier, sparking a huge manhunt by police.

Ayman al-Sabawi, the son of Saddam's half brother, Sabawi Ibrahim al-Tikriti, escaped Badoush prison near the northern city of Mosul on Saturday after the jail's night watch commander told colleagues he was transferring him to another prison.

Interior Ministry officials said they believed the commander had been bribed to help Sabawi escape. The night watch captain, whose family has also disappeared, convinced guards to free Sabawi after showing them a forged transfer form, they said.

"The interior minister has ordered that a committee be formed to investigate (the escape) and the arrest of the head of the prison and his deputy," ministry spokesman Major General Abdul Kareem Khalaf told state television.
