SAN FRANCISCO
Protesters urge Pelosi to back impeachment

A small but spirited rally in San Francisco on Sunday called on Rep. Nancy Pelosi to put impeachment at the top of the next Congress' legislative agenda.

Pelosi, who next month will become the first Californian and the first female speaker of the House, has said legislative efforts to remove President Bush from office are "off the table," even though Democrats will control the House for the first time since 1994. But members of a loose coalition of anti-war groups gathered at U.N. Plaza to demand that she reverse her stand.

"We need Nancy Pelosi to serve and represent her people," said Norah Foster, an organizer of the rally.

Foster reminded the crowd that San Francisco and Berkeley voters approved advisory measures last month calling for impeachment hearings to be held against Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney because of their actions related to the invasion of Iraq and civil liberties issues.

"If she puts impeachment back on the table, I'm confident Bush and Cheney will resign within four months," Foster said.

13. That's exactly what is needed,
but not just any old march. It has to be a march of historic proportions. A march that clogs the streets of the capital. A march that makes the "March On Washington" (ca. 1969) look small. I think it could happen.

3. Maybe, or run some investigations, leak the results, and then let the public
outcry for Bush's head take over. She can always claim that she didn't know that Bush's actions were that bad until the investigations revealed the truth.

4. Savor the "impeach" word! Roll the word around on your tongue! See, it
feels natural! Let the vowels drip with honey.

6. President Pelosi? Isn't she 3rd in line anfter January. Impeaching Bush
without impeaching Cheney would be like removing the body but leaving the head.

9. Simple. Cheney is a co-conspirator.
Toss them both at the same time.

As Bush falls apart, Republicans will jettison him.

8. Impeach Bush-Cheney et. al. -
just like Cynthia McKinney's bill. Have you read it?

14. Even Dennis Kucinich won't support this
During his candidacy announcement, he was asked about impeachment. He stated that he was opposed to it because it would interfere with bringing the troops home as soon as possible.

15. Personally, I'm in favor of impeaching SC judges...
... who are Repugs. Bush/Cheney will be gone in less than two years, no matter what happens. But Thomas, Roberts, Scalia and Alito will still be here for twenty years, doing far more damage to the country than Bush/Cheney could ever do.

We've got to get rid of them first... they're the greater danger. Afterwards, let's go after Bush/Cheney

17. Part of me wonders if another reason they're "holding back" ...
is to get the President to avoid vetoing certain legislation they want to get through quickly at the start. Perhaps they feel they can get through a lot of good stuff now with a president that wants to be "nice and not naughty" so that he doesn't get accelerated impeachment efforts going against them.

Perhaps they want to push through more and more progressive legislation to the point that he vetoes one of them. Then they say, "OK Dubya, you're not cooperating with us any more! Mr. Waxman and Mr. Conyers are now going to town on you!"
