Saudi clerics call for help for Sunnis in Iraq

RIYADH, Dec 11 (Reuters) - A group of prominent Saudi clerics have called on Sunni Muslims around the world to mobilise against Shi'ites in Iraq, although a statement they issued fell short of calling for a jihad, or holy war.

The statement appearing on Saudi Islamist Web sites on Monday said Sunni Muslims were being murdered and marginalised by Shi'ites, backed by Iran, and the U.S.-led forces.

...

"We direct this message to all concerned about Shi'ites in the world: the murder, torture and displacement of Sunnis ... is an outrage. We don't think you would accept to be treated like this," said the statement, dated Dec. 7.

...

The statement was signed by 38 clerics and Islamic preachers, including Abdel-Rahman al-Barrak, Safar al-Hawali and Nasser al-Omar, leading figures of Saudi Arabia's hardline school of Sunni Islam known as Wahhabism.

2. Yep. It spells trouble, as in a "conflagration", doesn't it?

3. Oh. Crap.
The only way things could get worse is for this conflict to spread. If there's one thing the can'tjustleavers might have as a point, (MIGHT have, I say) it's the danger of Iraq becoming a battleground for external opposed forces when we pull up stakes and leave. However, it's always been my belief that the longer we prolong the inevitable in Iraq the greater the likelihood of external involvement becomes. There will be a Shia dictatorship in Iraq--by dictatorship I mean Shia monopoly on national power, regardless of the form of the gov't.--the only question is how fast that happens and whether or not, should too many atrocities occur in the meantime, Saudi Arabia or other Sunni countries will decide to get directly involved to harass and destabilize the new Shi'ite Iranian-aligned state.

6. "when we pull up stakes and leave" ?? (where have you been?)
Sorry to point out the fact that "Iraq becoming a battleground for external opposed forces" already happened since 03/03 (or since centuries, if you prefer, but Saddam was the one who was "keeping" all factions from going at each others' throats, albeit, not in an "absolute" peaceful way, but still... let's say "in a secular way" alright?). Now since the "bid" for power (or "Pandora's Box") has been opened by the war criminals for oil in the White House (and at the PNAC website...) by screwing everything up over there, the fact "we pull up the stakes and leave" NOW won't change anything to the bloodbath that's happening and that's going to happen, except for the fact that our brothers and sisters in the US military will stop paying the price of the criminal neocon Junta's greedy cabal with their own blood (for NOTHING).

Who here believes their "they will follow us here if we pull out" fear-mongering propaganda? If you find some morans who do, ask them "how will they do that? Will they cross the Atlantic Ocean floating on burkas or will they just fly over it in UFOs?"

But I agree I am not so sure about the PNAC "lending them" the stuff for "a new September Eleven" they surely "dream" of MIHOP since November 7 as they arrogantly believed we could never win...

4. I predict that the US will pay heavily for supporting the Shia militias in their
murdering and torturing of Sunnis. Saudi Arabia is just the tip of the iceberg. Sunnis out number Shia about 8 to 1 around the world. We always take the wrong side in any international conflict.
