Arizona Ex-Treasurer Gets Probation
Former Arizona Treasurer Sentenced to Probation for Failing to Report Outside Income
PHOENIX Dec 11, 2006 (AP)— Former state Treasurer David Petersen was fined and placed on probation Monday, nearly two months after pleading guilty to failing to report outside income while in public office.
Petersen, a 56-year-old Republican who championed character education while serving in the Legislature, resigned Nov. 30 under a plea agreement with state prosecutors.
Judge James Keppel of Maricopa County Superior Court placed Petersen on supervised probation for three years and ordered him to pay $4,500 in fines and surcharges.
Petersen's attorney, Craig Henley, had asked the judge to consider Petersen's resignation as punishment enough.
