http://www.kfmb.com/stories/story.73296.html#A 34-year-old Marine stationed at Camp Pendleton has become the first female officer killed while fighting in Iraq.
Major Megan McClung was a public affairs officer for the Marine Corps, and over the last few months was working in Iraq as a liaison between the press and troops on the front lines.
According to the Department of Defense, McClung died while supporting combat operations in Al-Anbar Province on Wednesday. Reports that she was killed by an improvised explosive device in Ramadi were not confirmed.
She was reportedly in the town with a patrol trying to get the information to help with a reporter's story when she was killed in an enemy attack.
Military officials say McClung was assigned to the First Marine Expeditionary Force Headquarters group.
I know she is not the first female officer killed in Iraq - I think they meant first female Marine officer. In any case another good life wasted in this Bush war. You can read what some of her friends have posted here: http://www.proteinwisdom.com/index.php/weblog/entry/21863/
