Arar's lawyers file appeal against U.S. officials who sent him to Syria

WASHINGTON (CP) - American lawyers for Maher Arar have filed an appeal in his case against the U.S. officials who sent him to Syria.

Maria LaHood at the Center for Constitutional Rights in New York says the Canadian is still owed his day in court over abuses he suffered because of the Bush administration.

Arar was detained at a New York airport in September 2002 on his way home to Canada. U.S. officials who suspected him of terrorist ties sent him to Syria, where he was imprisoned and tortured.

A U.S. district court dismissed his case last February on national security and foreign policy grounds.
