Palomar airport may offer Customs service
Palomar airport may offer Customs service

Application made; it would be fee-based

CARLSBAD – McClellan-Palomar Airport is gearing up to offer U.S. Customs inspections, saving air travelers from Mexico the trouble and expense of an additional stop.

If approved by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency, the service could be ready by summer, county airport officials say.

It will give pilots bound for McClellan-Palomar from Mexico or other countries a choice they don't have now: clearing customs at Brown Field or the Calexico airport at no charge, or flying directly to Carlsbad and paying a fee.

Airport users “have been telling us for quite some time that they'd be pleased to pay these fees if we could get this service,” said Lee Ann Lardy, real estate project manager for San Diego County.

1. San Diego Airport "Crisis"
Is Palomar positioning itself to be the answer to San Diego's airport problems?

Probably easier than going the Miramar route.

3. You know when the Militrary will leave Miramar
'bout the same time hell freezes over.

And I wish people GOT IT.

Instead they are spending millions to be told by tne Navy... not only no but HELL NO

With a lot of improvements, and I mean a LOT of improvements and investment, Palomar cold do that. But they need to expand that airport quite a bit

4. Miramar is clearly unsuited to joint use, no matter what fantasy those who want it dream up
Palomar has serious weather issues and proximity issues to Pendelton. At best it will be a general aviation reliever for San Diego and Orange County
