Laura Bush Hits Media 'Drum Beat' on Iraq
By E&P Staff
Published: December 14, 2006

NEW YORK -- Appearing on MSNBC this morning with Norah O’Donnell, Laura Bush blamed the media, when asked why only 21% of Americans, in a recent NBC poll, said they approved of her husband's Iraq policy.

“I do know that there are a lot of good things that are happening (in Iraq) that aren’t covered," she said. "And I think that the drum beat in the country from the media, from the only way people know what is happening unless they happen to have a loved one deployed there, is discouraging....

"There are also good things going on that people don't have a chance to see....Schools that are being built. There are parts of country that are rebuilding....So I'd like to see the media give a more balanced view of it."...

She said that she knows Americans "support the troops" and she hopes the troops keep that in mind when they see the media coverage.

The recently released Iraq Study Group report declared, "there is significant underreporting of the violence in Iraq. The standard for recording attacks acts as a filter to keep events out of reports and databases…For example, on one day in July 2006 there were 93 attacks or significant acts of violence reported. Yet a careful review of the reports for that single day brought to light 1,100 acts of violence. Good policy is difficult to make when information is systematically collected in a way that minimizes its discrepancy with policy goals."

2. How many times can she do this?
She has high approval ratings because she's seen as as someone who is not involved in the battle. She was brought out for the election and got very little negative press. I wonder how long this will work.

Hey, if Pox "news" can't get that "fair and balanced" coverage out there, what good is it? Or maybe THEIR reporters are too terrified to venture outside the Green Zone also? I guess even Rupert Murdoch doesn't have THAT much money to be able to buy her some nice coverage of the good stuff in the improved parts of Iraq. Why, they're just absolutely blossoming! She ought to go over there and check it out for herself!

to build? They can't even use it because the plumbing doesn't work right. Another $50mil boondoggle for KBR or some other group.

Has she been to those schools to see that they are virtually empty because children were being kidnapped out of them? Or the teachers were being shot dead in front of the kids?

8. How many fucking schools do they need over there?
You know, there were schools in Iraq before we invaded. We didn't go over there to give them schools. So I don't know why the Bushbots keep harping on schools, do they think we're going to say, hey, we lost 3000 soldiers and there are hundreds of thousands of Iraqis dead, but at least the survivors have schools that they could go to if they don't get blown up on the way?

God, I really hate that woman. I hope I never from her or that piece of shit she's married to ever again once they leave office.

Actually, I take that back. If they happen to be tossed in the slammer, I wouldn't mind hearing their names for one last time.

15. She now knows how we felt in the run up to the war
However, there are a couple of differences between then and now. First of all the drum beat now is accurate.

The drum beat then was Fox news, fake intelligence and Billy Bob all in a panic. All of this happened because her husband and his lying mouthpieces talked constantly about weapons of mass destruction that didn't exist.

Many, probably most intelligence pros, knew WMD claims were bullshit and many people here marched against the drum beat.

Poor Pickles, I feel your pain. I hope it gets much, much worse.

28. Or at least drafted?
I can't believe the cheek of the Co-Dependent in Chief -- trotting out the outdated GOP talking point that the good news in Iraq is underreported. :eyes: I'm sure that if scores of people were turning up dead, some of them showing signs of torture, in Texas, the little light bulb would go on over her head. But it is not to be. I'd buy her a subscription to The Washington Post if I thought she could read.

18. Yesiree, Mizzuz Boooosh: "the media, the only way
people know what is happening unless they happen to have a loved one deployed there." And those who have loved ones deployed are the only ones who can get the really good news. Those poor families live in terror each and every day that their loved ones will die for this absurd catastrophuck engineered by your husband.

I never thought anyone could surpass Nancy in Stepford-type nastiness, but Laura takes the prize. If I hear one more stupid comment about "schools" being built (that's the ONLY thing they ever can say), I will throw up!

The point is that everything that is rebuilt is destroyed yet again. And so it will be until the occupation ends.

She said that she knows Americans "support the troops" and she hopes the troops keep that in mind when they see the media coverage.

What is she doing to support the troops? I'd like to know this. Is she organizing toy drives for soldiers familes? Encouraging Americans to send cards and letters to our troops stationed overseas? What? These periodic lectures from her set my teeth on edge.
