Bolton seeks charges against Iranian leader
U.N. ambassador says Ahmadinejad’s Holocaust remarks incite genocide

Reuters - Updated: 2:50 p.m. MT Dec 14, 2006

NEW YORK - Outgoing U.S. U.N. Ambassador John Bolton and former diplomats from Israel and Canada called on the United Nations on Thursday to charge Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad with inciting genocide.

The U.N. International Court of Criminal Justice should charge Ahmadinejad for his threats against the United States, for calling for the destruction of Israel and for instigating discrimination against Christians and Jews, the group said.

“It’s important that if we are in this stage where we’re being given early warning, unambiguously, on what his intentions are, then it’s time to take action,” Bolton told a Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations symposium.

Ahmadinejad caused outrage in the West last year by calling for Israel to be “wiped off the map,” echoing comments by the Islamic Republic’s late founder, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.

1. Bolton the war criminal should be facing charges at The Hague
Only rabid neocons and pro-Iran war religious riff-raff would support Bolton.

3. According to the translation in the NY Times
He never said Israel should be "wiped off the map". He said "Our dear Imam said that the occupying regime must be wiped off the map and this was a very wise statement."

Now I have no doubt that Ahmadinejad is a demagogue and a fool but we still should be very careful about how we interpret his words and it seems to me his words have been twisted. Saying you want the 'regime' that occupies Palestine 'wiped off the map' is much less inflammatory than saying you want 'Israel wiped off the map.' Now maybe he does want that but if he specifically hasn't said it we shouldn't attribute it to him. Also I can truly say, as many people can here, that I want the 'regime' that occupies Iraq 'wiped off the map.'

17. Ahmadinejad even clarified his remarks
He said Israel would be wiped off the map like the Soviet Union was wiped off the map, through a failure of its political, economic and exporting of death and destruction in other countries.

24. Interesting find
I didn't read that (probably cause I don't subscribe to the NY Times). It's important to get the facts right and while what he said is still troubling, its one thing to want to get rid of Israel's leadership versus wanted to "wipe out" the country and its people.

25. The mistranslation theory is just plain old crap.
http://www.irna.ir/en/news/view/line-17/0612154717154631.htm

Iran's diplomat to Syria Mohammad-Hossein Akhtari has said Holocaust did not exist in reality and the Israeli regime has no right of existence.

"Holocaust is fabricated and has never been as Israel and its allies define; gas chambers and the Treblinka and Auschwitz extermination camps have never existed," said Akhtari in an interview with Thursday edition of the highly circulated Italian daily Corriere della Sera.

. . .

"Israel has not the least legitimacy for existence."
Concluding the interview, Akhtari said all the Jewish immigrants should leave Israel and Palestinians have the right for repatriation.

10. it might actually be time to force the Arab world to accept the existence of Israel
Edited on Thu Dec-14-06 10:35 PM by anotherdrew
I'm inclined to feel that it might actually in fact be time to force the Arab world to accept the existence of Israel once and for all or just have it out. It's completely unacceptable, how would our nation react if China were saying the evil US regime needs to be wiped off the map, all bloody hell would break loose that's what, and justifiable so, there are some lines that must not be crossed by leaders of nations Ahmadinejad has crossed that line, and so did Bush when he invaded Iraq for completely bullshit reasons. Both men _SHOULD_ be removed from power on the basis that it is simply not acceptable that ANY leader of ANY nation talk openly about the destruction of another. As for forcing the issue, every other nation, all of Europe, the US and others, all will deny recognition and sanction any state that denies the right of existence to Israel (and any other country having their existence questioned. this will clearly make an issue of Taiwan, best it just go back to being part of China).

If Egypt can make peace so can the rest, also a resolution to the Palestinian refugees must happen, give them a bit of Jordan for gods sake, build them a lovely country with donations from the world, set up a viable economy and let's move on. These problems MUST be resolved or they will destroy us all eventually.

12. Bolton calls for trying someone in a court the US opposes
for an act that is not clearly a crime under US law.
Several Americans may have cases to answer at the Hague.
Oh, I forget. The US demands other that other nations
grant Americans immunity from ICC prosecution.

What an amazing feat of hypocrisy.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/chi-0612090076dec09,1,2248854.story?coll=chi-newsnationworld-hed\

Frankly, I'm sick of all of the "he wants Isreal wiped off the map!" They obsess about poking a stick at him so they can point a finger and say he twitched. It's one whacko giving credibility to another whacko at the opposite extreme.

But most of all, it's a diversion. Plain and simple. It serves as a diversion to all of things currently going on in that region of the world that have the U.S. boot firmly planted.

Good riddance, John Bolton.

We have no intention of ever talking with you and want to have you charged with inciting genocide. Well I guess this is Bolton's answer to the Baker Reports recommendations for a political solution through diplomacy.

20. Not that I support Iran's president BUT...
...it is pretty clear that calling for the end of Israel is not calling for genocide in this case. He made the clear analogy to the end of the Soviet Union. The end of the Soviet Union did not amount to genocide, but rather the end of a social system. Anti-zionists call for the end of the zionist sociali system. Of course Iran's president is ALSO an anti-semitic racist and must be sternly condemned. But there is no evidence of incitement to genocide. Furthermore, Bush's administration IS committing real genocide in Iraq, with its policy targeting the Iraqi people for elimination.
