President Bush leads Pentagon farewell to Rumsfeld
WHITE HOUSE (AP) -- President Bush will be there this afternoon as the Pentagon rolls out a full-honors goodbye ceremony for Donald Rumsfeld.

He's leaving after six stormy years as defense secretary, being replaced Monday by Robert Gates. Bush tapped the former C-I-A director after last month's elections, saying he wanted to bring "fresh eyes" to the troubled mission in Iraq.

Rumsfeld has been condemned by critics as the architect of a disastrous war of choice. But in a broadcast good-bye to the troops, he defends the conflicts in both Iraq and Afghanistan, calling them "historic chapters in the saga of human freedom."

2. The way Rummy was dismissed was shoddy. Where's the Prez Medal of Freedom?
Rummy has volunteered to resign on several occasions.

So, the President ditches him when it's politically expedient to do so. Shoddy.

6. How much will it cost?
Well, they've set aside $20 million for the last couple of years for the big "Victory in Iraq" celebration. Maybe they pulled it out of that drawer?

Anyway, as a public service, your friendly neighborhood gratuitous will now lead DU in its farewell to Rumsfeld. Everybody sing along!

Na na na na,
Na na na na
Hey he-ey
Goo-ood bye!

7. "... full honors...."
You know, it hasn't happened to me yet, thank goodness, but I can tell you if I ever completely effed up at one of my jobs the way Rumsfeld has, if I committed the kinds of criminal acts Rumsfeld has, not only would I have been shown the door right away, it would not have been with "full honors." More likely, it would have been with handcuffs and ankle shackles.

"Full honors" to Rumsfeld is an insult to this country. Just like Bush giving the medal of freedom to the other masters of disaster.
