It reads like the "they" refers to the missing climbers - but why were they ascending? I would expect the climbers either to be staying put or descending.

3. I think the note was left at the start of their climb

just as a precautionary thing, not after they got into trouble. Sort of like filing a flight plan.

... a 911 call which indicated they had moved from the last place they sent a 911/cell from.

11. The note indicates that they had most of the basic gear

but the weather conditions this past week have been abysmal. I'm not expecting a good result.

Also, I should add that the conditions are VERY dangerous for rescuers, too, with whiteouts, extremely high winds and major avalanche danger. An emergency locater would have been a big help....
