WP: U.S. to Armor-Plate Iraqi Police Vehicles
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/12/15/AR2006121501598.html?nav=rss_world/mideast

Reacting to criticism that the United States has not provided the right equipment to Iraqi security forces, the Multi-National Command in Baghdad has been seeking a contractor to put armor on 1,300 American-made SUVs and pickup trucks used by the Iraqi National Police.

The awarding of the contract was scheduled for yesterday.

The program is being undertaken two years after Iraqis began to be recruited because the Iraqi National Police "have been losing policemen due to small arms fire and IEDs while operating in their patrol trucks," according to the solicitation for bidders published last month.

The planned work is to provide either steel or composite plates for the doors and undercarriage of the vehicles to protect against bullets of up to 7.62mm caliber, the ammunition fired by the AK-47s used by many of the insurgents.

The armoring will require the contractor to upgrade each vehicle's suspension system to support the added weight and to do the work in a way that leaves the driver and passenger in the front seat with the ability to see the rearview mirrors. In addition, the contractor has to provide space behind the cab of the pickup trucks for machine guns that can swivel a full 360 degrees.

3. Hmm....Makes sense but I can't see why
the Iraqi police vehicles are armoured but the personnel carriers that American men and women who were sent there on a lie have to cannibalise junk yards and dead cars for any sort of extra shielding? Wake the "Eff" up, America!!

4. Anything else, Mr. Bush, to blow on my hard-earned tax dollars on??!?!
You can't even properly armor your own troops. Stop worrying about the Iraqis. When the civil war comes in 5 or so years and you'll be thankfully safely out of power they won't need armor as they go on their little ethnic cleansing missions.

5. This would amount to essentially armoring vehicles
which most likely would be used against us. The Iraqi police are thoroughly infiltrated by Iraqi patriots.

7. But no money for US veterans, no money for New Orleans,

Wake up, America.

8. So the Iraqi police are more important than our troops, yes?
Lemme see do I grok this. Rummy sends US troops into Iraq Nam without armored Humvees and that's okay. But the Iraqi police have to have armored vehicles. Hmmm. What am I not getting here?

D'OH!!!

"the Multi-National Command in Baghdad has been seeking a contractor...The awarding of the contract was scheduled for yesterday."

AHA! The body bag/transfer tube contingent underbid the retrofit armor faction first time around, now DIDN'T IT? It was good old Supply And Demand, wannit? The Regime got SUPPLY enough corpses until Good Murkins began to DEMAND that our fungible assets be given armored vehicles.

Somewhere in the middle, safe in bu$h-o-Murka with their taxable assets offshore, Giant Corporations toasted each other's good fortune with goblets of blood.

Burn. In. Hell. Motherfuckers.
