AP: McCain seeks more troops in Afghanistan

McCain seeks more troops in Afghanistan
ALISA TANG
Associated Press

KABUL, Afghanistan - Washington will send more troops to Afghanistan if need be,
Sen. John McCain said Saturday, while urging European allies to send their troops
to the country's restive south.

McCain praised Afghan, U.S., Canadian, British and Dutch forces for bearing "a great
deal of the combat responsibilities in recent months," but pushed for more from other
key allies of the United States.

Other NATO countries with troops in Afghanistan should remove their "national
caveats," which make it "extremely difficult for our NATO commanders to call on them
for assistance when needed in combat zones, particularly in the southern part of the
country," McCain, a 2008 presidential hopeful, said during a two-day visit in
Afghanistan with three other Congress members.

McCain, a Republican from Arizona who has called for the deployment of more U.S.
troops to Iraq, said that more troops could also be sent to Afghanistan.

6. It's sad how his own ambition corrupted an otherwise tolerable human being
He was a repug I could respect, but he's DEAD wrong about this. It's an all-or-nothing gamble for him (to succeed would probably shoe him in for 2008). Sickeningly political...:puke:

9. In the novel, "The Brethren", by John Grisham, a republican
candidate for President is told to take a hawkish, militaristic stance by an agency similar to the NSA. The "NSA" tells this candidate that this warlike stance will insure his election, because they are going to do something to make it so. They do not tell the candidate exactly what is going to happen.

The Democratic candidate in the novel is seen as more diplomatic, if I recall correctly.

Not long before the election, the NSA engineers a terrorist attack, "proving" that the republican candidate was correct, and the republican candidate wins the election by a landslide, because the people have been "properly terrified".

McCain is being so loony-toons gung ho about sending more troops to Iraq, Afghanistan, (and probably Timbuktu also), that it makes me wonder if the PNAC is going to engineer another terrorist attack in order to get McCain elected and in order to continue implementing their plans to take over the world.

Personally, I have absolutely no doubt that the PNAC would engineer a scenario similar to this. Not necessarily saying that this is the case here, but if this scenario were to actually play out....

10. PNAC has not been sitting on it's hands to let it go down the
tube after all this; and to me it seems inevitable that there will be another
terrorist attack here before the next election. You have to admit, PNAC is on shaky ground.
I think people are watching them a lot closer (note - not the press per se) but citizens.
as far as McCain, he is just doing the legwork for the Repug congress - they know the shit
is going to hit the fan when they hang Saddam and they need more coverage.
It's gonna be bad and Syria, Iran and the Saud's are gonna have to step in to control
the damage.

12. A vote for McCain is a vote to continue Bush's wars
I won't vote for any candidate, of any party, that will continue Bush's wars.
