Elder Bush: 'Beat the Hell' Out of Hillary
Former U.S. President George H.W. Bush said in Japan he would try to beat the hell out of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton if she were to run for president.

Bush may be friends with former President Bill Clinton, but if New York's junior senator campaigns for the White House in 2008, as many expect, I'll be back on the other side (of politics), and I will be trying to beat the hell out of her, if I possibly can, a grinning Bush said in Tokyo, where he spoke at Waseda University's school of sports and science.

Aides to both Clintons declined comment, The New York Post reported.

Bush joined forces with Bill Clinton to raise money for disaster relief, first after the Southeast Asian tsunamis of December 2004, and then after Hurricane Katrina last year.

1. Well, there goes my theory...
My theory being that of all the Bushes only one had a shred--just a shred, mind you--of humanity: George Herbert Walker Bush. But, nah. I'm wrong. He's a pig just like the rest of them. BEAT THE HELL OUT OF HER? Hmmph. "Paging Dr. Freud, Paging Dr. Freud...we have another specimen for you...."
Cheesh!

46. That old fart will NEVER get the kind of payback he wants.
EVER. He'd like to see the Clintons be done away with, no doubt. Ain't gonna happen. Especially when his precious namesake has blown everything sky-high for his family franchise and their World's Biggest Entitlement Program (the exclusive rights the bushies seem to think they have to the occupancy of White House). Besides, Hillary's boy beat the hell outta YOU, 41, if memory serves, and that's as close as you got. It's done already, and you WON'T get a do-over.

3. Sounds like he could have been a little "martinied" up, crazy old
coot. If he's going to start beating up on women he could start with that fat sounds like witch he's married to. I mean my God, six months ago it's like Bill Clinton is the son he's never had, and now he wants to "beat up" his wife. What an ass. Cart him off to a nursing home or something, I have more than Bush fatigue...

30. I agree
I think this "game of politics" is ridiculous. It seems they can say or do anything against each other but they come out shaking hands when it's all said and done. Just goes to show these aren't real people, they're just playing games with us all pretending to do and say things to get us riled all the while they sit back, count cash and laugh at us.

You know that last sentence would make an awesome rap song, huh? lol

8. Precisely why I want her to stay out of the race.
How I feel about her as a politician, at this point, is meaningless. They would dogpile on her, and it would not stop. Period. She would not be able to get anything done.

It's a bad idea. She needs to bow out. Remain a Senator, please, Hillary... for all of us.

(Again, I'm not doubting her or her abilities; on the contrary: I already know what she would face from the pubs, and it would be very damaging to the whole country.)

29. You are so right on this one. The campaign would be incredibly brutal
and if she managed to win, they would attack and hound her mercilessly. It would be a repeat of what Bill went through. And, if the past is any indication, the media will enable and encourage every fabrication, smear, innuendo and lie about her.

I don't doubt her abilities one bit either and I don't think she would make a bad president, but I think this country would be ripped to shreds thanks to the republican attack machine that would go into overdrive with a Hillary campaign and presidency. Its very sad that politics has devolved into something so smarmy and nasty. Sadder still that a former president would think it appropriate to make such a remark about a former first lady and sitting senator. Then again the Bush family is not known for their grace or dignity.

Let's face it, the entire Bush clan is classless in addition to presenting a clear and present danger to our democracy and world peace. If there is one good thing about W's residency is that it ought to cure the American people from ever voting for someone from that cursed tribe ever again.

11. wrong answer from a former president
Correct answer, "That is for the electorate to decide".

The Clinton Aides also had the correct answer.

A former head of state needs to put themselves above politics, as most presidents have done in the past. Former Presidents have a special place in this country and they need to stand-up for the good of the country, not petty party differences.

40. Yes, I feel the same way. I generally like her, but readily admit she has said and done...
... things that totally rub me the wrong way. To the point of making me question whether I'd support her in the primary. Years ago, she would have had my vote locked up, but not now.

Still, the visceral, intense contempt that some on this board have for her... it's amazing to see. I expect it from the right-wing. In fact, I've have been up-close-and-personal with it from the right wing, and what a disgusting experience that can be.

But I'm in the DU camp that says we ought to spend more time boosting the candidates and party leaders we like, less time spewing vitriol at the ones we don't.

Criticism, sure. "Here's what makes (insert candidate name) a terrible choice, in my view." But I hate to see Democrats savaging other Democrats, especially when it sounds so eerily like the right-wing talking some days, in some of the threads I've seen.

As for me, with so much Congressional work to commence come January, I'm remaining resolutely undecided on White House Hopefuls until the 2008 primary gets under way for real.

I have some favorites among the names being tossed about. But I want to give all of them a chance to convince me why they deserve my vote. Heck, that's what the primary's are for, if we can keep the TV talk-show chattering class from trying to decide it all in advance.

:hi:

First of all Hillary physically could whip the old codger six ways to Sunday or any of his addled brood. Then she could take the hell out of Bush, but you can't take a Bush out of hell. Even Nixon retained some sense and guile regarding effective politics. Without hatchet men these brain challenged plutocrats are empty suits, empty brains and empty threats.

Of course, nice try getting involved. It was encouraging they had enough dedication and bravery left to relish beating up on a woman at a safe distance. We thought the elder sire of monsters had given up completely.

41. That whole family is totally incapable of seeing their own
disconnect from reality. Daddy bush was just crying about the horrible things done to his baby boy jeb during his first failed election to become governor of Florida yet he sees nothing wrong in saying this and not recalling his appalling tactics during his run for the Presidency. Ma "Barker" bush's horrific statements on both the dead bodies of those killed in Iraq and the victims of Katrina in Texas re-enforces that disconnect and then you add the other baby bush and his "trifecta" comment along with the numerous totally inappropriate comments and there is something SERIOUSLY wrong both mentally and emotionally with them all.

51. Why are Republicans so anti-Hillary?
I honestly don't understand it. She's very right-leaning. Her stances on the issues reveal her to be a very benign, middle of the road politician; extremely pro-Washington (AKA corporate) establishment. Perhaps it's lingering bitterness over her fight with the holy corporate white knights of the insurance and pharmaceutical lobbies in the early 90s? That episode notwithstanding, I'm still at a loss as to what the Republican talking heads in the media use to base their characterization of her as a radical, left-wing hippie on.
