1. Wow, if they're found alive, that would be awesome!
I smell a made-for-TV movie on TNT or ABC Family...

2. Great news (hopefully)
But I have to say, CNN has really been overcovering this story. Anderson Cooper has regularly been devoting the first 20 minutes of his show solely to this story.

7. I don't know why there is so much coverage of this
People get lost in the mountains every winter. They always send out rescue teams and the Nation Guard, but there isn't national coverage.

Couple of the guys are from Texas. Maybe that's it.

4. Good News
It's positive sign that there is a "Y" in the snow. There's been a lot of snow on the mountain in the last few days. I think it means that someone put it there in the last couple days.

6. That's a really good point
I was wondering why they weren't on the mountain themselves, and of course they wouldn't be if they knew they'd left a good mark.

8. I'm kinda of worried that they aren't out waving, too
If they are hearing helicopters, it seems they would be out on the snow if they are able.

10. The National Guard spokesman said that because of the
amount of time that has passed, they may well be too weak to come out and wave. (Assuming they are still alive).

5. It's a gorgeous day here
I'm not a mountain climber, but it would seem to me that at least one of them would be on the mountain if they were able. Maybe someone with some actual climbing knowledge could give some explanations as to why that wouldn't be happening if they're alive, or why they wouldn't be seen on a day like today.

HOOD RIVER, Ore. (AP) - Crews searching for three climbers on Mount Hood found
mountaineering gear and a snow cave in the area where one of the climbers made
a distress call a week ago, officials said Sunday.

The spot was about 11,000 feet up and on the north side of the 11,239-foot mountain,
said Marc Smith, a deputy with the Hood River County Sheriff's Office.

Search teams may be dropped by helicopter onto the area, said Sgt. Gerry Tiffany,
of the Hood River County sheriff's office. Also, search teams climbing the other side
of the mountain had reached the summit and could descend to the site.

15. Cave is empty (except for equipment)
Location of former occupant(s): ... Unknown ...

This is looking pretty grim ....

When did he (they) leave ? ....

Why can he (they) avoid being spotted by IR sensing on the aircraft ? ....

Truly .... this is not good for them ....

21. Frustrating.
We can see Mt. Hood from Portland and it's eerie to know three men are up there -- maybe dead, maybe alive and suffering. :scared:
