Rice calls for end to Palestinian violence

DUBAI (Reuters) - U.S. Secretary of State
Condoleezza Rice called on Palestinians to end violence and look into forming a government that wins international acceptance.

"The violence needs to stop. We hope that there will in fact be a ceasefire between the parties, that is very important," Rice said in an interview with Al Arabiya television made available to Reuters on Tuesday ahead of broadcast.

............

The fighting has escalated since Abbas called on Saturday for early elections to break the deadlock and Hamas accused him of a "coup" against its elected government.

"The political crisis also has to be resolved and it needs to be resolved by the Palestinian people getting a government that can be acceptable internationally so that the difficulties that have been there in terms of resources for the Palestinians can be resolved," Rice said.

1. "The violence needs to stop"
Oh boy, another "knock it off over there, you kids!" diplomat in the Bush administration. It's just such a powerful model, you wonder why everybody doesn't just adopt it. Crime? "Crime needs to stop." Poverty? "Poverty needs to stop."

Heck, we could solve all the world's problems by lunchtime. And then go shoe shopping.

7. They had one Condi, you refused to meet with him
Ignorant and incompetant witch. Suddenly Arafat the boogy-man doesn't look so bad, eh Condi?

"Ms Rice celebrates the healing virtues of democracy, but refused to deal with Yasser Arafat, the democratically elected President of the Palestinian authority. Could Ms Rice be ignorant that Arafat won an election in 1996 carrying 88% of the popular vote in an election monitored by international monitors and by the Carter Center? To answer this question, we may choose between hypocrisy and ignorance."

8. The crisis needs to be resolved through Hamas' unconditional surrender
That's Condi's message. Because that's the only way the Palestinian people can get a government that can be acceptable internationally and the financial siege ended. If the Palestinians continue to choose the wrong leaders, the siege shall continue.

Has the violence stopped because Condi asked nicely? Well, whatever, now she can go to the next item on her holiday agenda - buy more shoes.

"If you guys stop killing each other, there'll be much less death," he said in an interview with his cat, Sedgwick Fluffanutter.

I figure I have just as much of chance of being heeded as she does. Or rather, she has just as much of a chance of being heeded as I do!
