Polish Leader Asked to Extend Iraq Tour

WARSAW, Poland (AP) - The government asked the president Tuesday
to prolong the mission of Poland's 900 troops in Iraq for another
year, until the end of 2007.

The current mission was originally due to last until Dec. 31, 2006.
But the government of Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski said on its
Web site that it had sent a letter to President Lech Kaczynski, his twin
brother, formally requesting the extension.

The president will decide on the matter within the next few days, senior
aide Aleskander Szczyglo told Poland's PAP news agency.

Szczyglo added the decision would "most probably be positive."

2. I don't think the Polish troops are too much at risk at this point

I would imagine if a number of them were killed, they would be pulled out. I doubt the Polish public would be willing to endure many casualties.
