Bush Calls for Bigger Army
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- President Bush on Wednesday said he thinks the U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps need to be increased in size.

"We have an obligation to ensure our military is capable of sustaining this war over the long haul, and performing the many tasks that we ask of them," Bush told a news conference in Washington.

...because he's totally f*cked up the one he had!

1. The only reason we need a bigger army is because 140.000 of them are mired in Iraq.
Redeploy those 140,000 and adopt a policy of no more long term occupations and the need for a bigger army will go away.

5. Where's this "bigger army" going to come from?
It's all recruiters can do to maintain the size of the current force. His grasp of reality gets looser every day.

6. According to Max Boot, from immigrants in exchange for citizanship.

I guess being a dead citizen is better than being a live illegal immigrant, according to Boot.

10. The army Clinton left performed superbly in Iraq. It was the civilians that effed things up.
Starting with Rummy and Bremer. Tell that to your neighbor.

17. china has a bigger army
but we spend WAY more on ours. ours is far far beyond a strictly defensive capacity. it is intended for offense - to project american corporate power around the globe. and serve as a defacto welfare program at home - subsidies for corporations, remedial education for the working class. the MIC must be dismantled or we slip into dictatorship as surely as imperial rome.

why have all those expensive toys if you never get to play with them? the military's existence must be justified.

A draft requires the approval of Congress, and I don't imagine that a fully Democratic congress elected to improve the situation is going to go for it. The Pentagon itself has stated that it doesn't want one, that it'd just create an even bigger mess.

Now, will he drive our volunteer troops even further into the dirt with his maniacal plans before someone can stop him? That's what really has me concerned.
