INDIANAPOLIS - Gov. Mitch Daniels might decide by the end of the year whether to sign a contract to pay IBM Corp. and its partners $1.16 billion over 10 years to help run Indiana's programs for food stamps, Medicaid and other assistance for the needy, his office said Wednesday.
The Daniels administration has proposed the contract to hire a team of vendors led by IBM to help process applications for the programs and lend technical support to Family and Social Services Administration, which now handles the work.
The deal was approved by federal agencies that run the benefit programs, including the Department of Health and Human Services and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which administers food stamps, Daniels spokeswoman Jane Jankowski said Tuesday.
