Poland ponders giving Jesus an earthly realm
A move is underway to make Jesus Christ the honorary king of Poland, the country's influential Rzeczpospolita newspaper reported on Wednesday.

The paper said the idea already has the backing of 10 per cent of the members in the 460-seat lower house of parliament.

More deputies in parliament would likely join in championing the cause if the country's clergy give their backing to the idea, Rzeczpospolita said.

One deputy, Artur Gorski, said some of his colleagues "were praying in the parliamentary chapel for (Jesus's) coronation," the paper reported.

Can 46 people, supposedly rational enough to get elected, really think this is a good idea?

7. I appreciate the reaction of the Catholic clergy though...
Backing from the church in this strongly Catholic country would be crucial for building support for the proposal, but on Wednesday several bishops criticized it, and said parliament should stay out of religious affairs.

"Let parliament deal with passing better laws that we need," Gdansk Archbishop Tadeusz Goclowski said.

"This kind of action, although it may stem from good will, sounds a bit like propaganda," said bishop Tadeusz Pieronk.

18. My mother has always told me that the Polish people were very religious
and I thought she was just exaggerating

She is Lithuanian and is somewhat of an agnostic, but she told me that most Polish people she knew took the Roman faith to extremes...and she called me today to tell me that this is proof that she wasn't crazy when she told me that...

30. Before WW2 Jews made some 10% of Polands
population.

"Poles suck in anti-Semitism with their mothers' milk. This is something that is deeply imbued in their tradition, their mentality. Like their loathing of Russia. The two things are not connected, of course. But that, too, is something very deep, like their hatred of Am Yisrael. Today, though, there are elements that are cleansed of this anti-Semitism." Former Prime Minister of Israel Yitzhak Shamir in an interview on September 8, 1989, Friday Jerusalem Post.

36. Jesus mulls a new offer...
In a cloud lined office somewhere up there, Jesus in his three piece business robe goes over paper work...

Jesus: hmmm, what's this? And offer from Poland to be their king?

Jesus briefs over the letter...

Jesus: free benefits? 1 month vacation with expenses paid? free wifi?

Jesus gazes out the window...

Jesus: wifi...That would be bitchin'...
