US Coast Guardsman jailed over Ku Klux Klan fliers
BOSTON (Reuters) - A U.S. Coast Guardsman was sentenced on Tuesday to a year in military prison for posting recruitment fliers for the Ku Klux Klan white supremacist group, illegally storing explosives and other charges.

Petty Officer Chad Blair, 26, pleaded guilty at a court martial in Boston to posting the fliers last March and April at the Cape Cod Mall and at the Barnstable Municipal Airport, about 67 miles southeast of Boston.

Capt. Brian Judge, the presiding military judge, also expelled Blair from the Coast Guard on a bad conduct discharge, Coast Guard spokesman Chief Petty Officer Scott Carr said.

At a court martial on Monday, Blair admitted to storing seven unregistered weapons, explosive powder, grenade parts and fuses in military housing at Otis Air National Guard Base on Cape Cod, a summer tourist destination known for its beaches.

5. lets see...
on the rhetorical side, the opening line of this article appears to put posting recruitment posters as a more egregious crime than storing explosives...

makes you wonder

8. Uh, Coast Guard isn't the real military in the context you cite. It isn't even in the
Department of Defense. USCG uniformed personnel are subject to the UCMJ, along with the Commissioned Corps of the Public Health Service (US Surgeon General & his people) and the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)weather forecasters. USCG folks, however, have inherent authorities of federal police and are in the Department of Homeland Security. Neither Secretary of Defense Bob Gates nor Joint Chief's Chairman USMC General Peter Pace issue orders to the Coast Guard other than vessels temporarily put under Navy control.

9. Coasties would dispute that
The USCG is at all times part of the US Armed Services. And they have fought in every major war since their inception. Today they are still patroling in and around Iraq.
