Holocaust Board Chides Radio Host Member (Dennis Prager)

Holocaust Board Chides Radio Host Member

WASHINGTON -- The election of the first Muslim to the U.S. Congress continues to serve as a lightning rod for religious disputes in the nation's capital.

On Thursday, the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum board's executive committee distanced itself from statements made by board member Dennis Prager, who had criticized Democratic Rep.-elect Keith Ellison's decision to use the Quran during his ceremonial swearing-in.

Prager, a conservative talk radio host, wrote last month that when it comes to members of Congress taking an oath, "America is interested in only one book, the Bible. If you are incapable of taking an oath on that book, don't serve in Congress."

By tradition, all members of the House are sworn in together on the House floor. It's in the unofficial photo opportunity ceremony that members are sometimes seen swearing an oath on the Bible.

1. Good for them.
He is a bone-headed Islamaphobic asshole! I agree with the museum, he should be allowed to say what he wants, and I would encourage more to do it because then we know who they are! Too many hide in the shadows and pretend to be something they are not. Did I mention that Prager is bone-headed Islamaphobic asshole?

2. He's probably THE most sanctimonious, arrogant, holier-than-thou

windbag of the bunch. Unfortunately, we in L.A. radio have the dubious "honor" of introducing him to the national talk radio scene. This guy's been on the air out here for many years, with his whiny-ass superiority complex and nasal voice, and his every sixth or seventh word being "MORAL" - "MORAL" this and "MORAL" that, as though he were claiming the title of Chief Arbitor and Decider of these issues for everybody. Every show found him growing more and more insufferable.

He of ALL people should be ashamed of himself for posturing like this, because he of ALL people should know better.

Prager used to host a radio show here in town called "Religion on the Line," on the local ABC O&O - KABC TalkRadio (the one that now has "progressed" so beautifully to offering us bill orally and that-guy-whose-name-rhymes-with-VANITY). Its standard format was a panel discussion with open phone lines for listeners to call in. The panel was always made up of a Catholic priest, a Jewish rabbi, and some sort of Protestant minister. Granted, there was usually no representative of another faith, but the whole idea was in-depth discussion of DIFFERENT faiths, their meanings, their significance to believers, their similarities and lack thereof, AND their believers. Various contemporary issues were routinely discussed through these filters. The whole idea was to promote better communication between, and understanding of, disparate religion-based views. The whole "things that we share in common are stronger and more profound than those things that divide us" type of affair. And this putz hosted it and served as moderator for a LONG time!!!!

He's just showing his true colors - as a rigid, prejudiced, closed-minded, pontificating, pompous twit. One of the great 13th-century minds of our time. I'm still trying to figure out who died and made him Pope.

Hopefully his haranging on about this will reveal him to many more people as the complete ass he is.

3. neither men nor women want to be given rules or ruled by a women

Dennis Prager: Our Father Is No 'It' or Gal God, June 19th, 2005

"But, first and foremost, the Judeo-Christian God is a moral ruler
(giver of moral rules and moral judge of humanity), and neither men nor
women want to be given rules or ruled by a woman".

The above quotes are from an article by Dennis Prager where he argues
for God to be considered masculine. Notice even the title of his
article with the words "Gal God" seek to denigrate women.
***********************************************************************
The Holocaust council needs to do more than pass a resolution, they need to kick Prager
off the council.

14. I suspect there are quite a few of us all over So Cal.
I find him just insufferable. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY back when I actually listened to KABC, when Michael Jackson was on, I'd catch his show every so often. I thought he was a little pompous back then, and my estimation of him shrunk from there.

BTW - for non-Angelenos, it's the Michael Jackson who's the gloriously well-informed and eloquent liberal talk show host - the one with the British accent. Never did a shoutfest in his life. His shows were so adult. So civil. So educational. And he had a rolodex to die for. I miss him on the air. We need people like him to replace the bloviators and self-inflated, self-impressed putzes.

21. Memory Lane
I recall michael Jackson. Years ago (mid 1980s) you could 'watch' his show from the downtown studios. You brought up a name from the past.

Whatever happened to some of the others: Joe Crummy, Dr. DeAngelo come to mind.

20. Gee, you think Dennis forgot about the 2 new BUDDHISTS in Congress?
Gee, Dennis, not a peep about the two Buddhists elected in Novemeber, including the Buddhist who replaced Cynthia Mc Kinney. That guy belongs to something called the Soka Gakkai, which isn't held in too high a regard in Japan. I wonder why Mr. Judeo-Xtian Moral KKKompASS is so silent about them?

10. I used to listen occasionally to Prager's "religion on the line" show a long time ago
He occasionally had a representative of the Moslem faith on his show. Sometimes the discussions were interesting. I once even called in with the question as to whether, if the religious leaders on his panel believe in evolution, and if only men and not animals have souls, when man's soul evolved and whether it was gradual or if the soul just sprung up from nothingness overnight. The Catholic Priest said that he accepted the scientific concept of man's evolution but no one would answer my question and they quickly moved on to something else.

Anyway, Prager used to call himself a Democrat and a "passionate centrist". I wonder what happened because as he's aged he's become a bigger and bigger crackpot and intolerant whacko. I stopped listening to him altogether in the early 1990s when he began attacking the entire legal profession across the board as being bad for America because it has no morality according to him.

Another word he says a lot besides "moral" is the word "evil". Everything in his world is either good or evil, black and white.

13. Another Prager Term "Moral Compass"
He has morphed over the years... the same way Larry Elder and Dr. Laura Schlessinger have...to the point where he blames every negative outcome on "the leftists". Pothole in the street... it's due to the left.

Prager also attacks the universities daily... he HATES the American education system because is produces liberals.

5. The guy's entitled to his opinion but he's clearly wrong.....
And I don't see what the big deal is. The man is a Moslem -- so why should it offend anybody that he practice his religion the way he sees fit?

18. it only offends those people who believe that
the US was founded as a Christian nation. Although nowhere does it say that that is the case, Prager and those of his ilk would bet their grandchildren's innocence that is was. He is so weak and insecure in his own religion that anyone who is strong in theirs and it's not what he believes is such a threat to him and his own mental wellbeing that his answer is to violate their constitutional right to worship as they choose.

8. I'd like to agree, but....
The Dem victory in 2006 saved them. It gave the radio rightwingnuts a new target for their blame. The war?.. Dems lost it. Immigration?... Dems won't do anything about it. You get my drift...

I'll bet Hannutty and Limpballs were sacrificing goats and chickens to their deity for a Dem win.

19. in the first place
""America is interested in only one book, the Bible. If you are incapable of taking an oath on that book, don't serve in Congress.""

1. Ellison was elected by the people of his state because they felt he would represent them well in Congress... he didn't walk into the House and fill out an application on the job board.

2. America does not have a state appointed religion. It does not recognize Judeo Christianity... it still hasn't embraced a Jew for President, so how he can even form his mouth and draw the breath to make that asinine statement? The founding fathers were too aware of the wars of religion that tore apart England and France for centuries that they made sure the constitution did not recognize any specific religion.

3. It's for his own photo that he'll put in a frame and keep as a momento--just as the Judeo Christians do when they get their picutres taken--it's no different.
