Rice calls Iraq worth the investment and says U.S. can win
Edited on Thu Dec-21-06 05:46 PM by Newsjock
http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2006/12/21/america/NA_GEN_US_Rice_AP_Interview.php

WASHINGTON: Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice told The Associated Press Thursday that Iraq is "worth the investment" in American lives and dollars.

The top U.S. diplomat said the United States can win in Iraq, although the war so far has been longer and more difficult than she had expected.

In an Associated Press interview, Rice was asked whether an additional $100 billion (€75.8 billion) the Pentagon wants for the Iraq and Afghan wars might amount to throwing good money after bad in Iraq.

"I don't think it's a matter of money," Rice said. "Along the way there have been plenty of markers that show that this is a country that is worth the investment, because once it emerges as a country that is a stabilizing factor you will have a very different kind of Middle East."

3. What is the return? Besides the all the glory and honor of course.
What do we get? What do the Iraqi's get? How have we improved the world? What is this ultimately going to yield?

At this point, I think we deserve a concrete clearly delineated plan that shows an ROI and a net gain in some way manner or form.

The rhetoric is wearing thin and there are only so many lies you tell before the base dwindles to nothing.

That has to be one of least compassionate thoughtful comments ever - and she is clearly not a diplomat at all - much less a good one. Even if she has that position. The Democrats who voted against her were right.

38. That's a reasonable argument for not fillabustering her nomination.
Edited on Thu Dec-21-06 10:24 PM by Benhurst
But the Democrats could have voted against her, letting her win on a straight party-line vote. They shouldn't have voted for her confirmation.

Those who voted against her:

Akaka (D-HI)
Bayh (D-IN)
Boxer (D-CA)
Byrd (D-WV)
Dayton (D-MN)
Durbin (D-IL)
Harkin (D-IA)
Jeffords (I-VT)
Kennedy (D-MA)
Kerry (D-MA)
Lautenberg (D-NJ)
Levin (D-MI)
Reed (D-RI)

Might I venture to suggest that people who put their own political

...so far a trillion dollars and countless lives have been ruined and lost for a corporate colonial investment.

Cost benefit analysis says "sunk costs are no costs," past losses are no justification for future investments of a like kind. Lawrence Korb, Defense Management 101, Naval War College

Of course when you are using taxpayer revenues to fund your own private corporate adventurism for profit, you don't give a s..t about sound policy management principles.

28. Delusions and insanity runs through the bush administration
Yesterday we were told that many high ranking officers and retired military along with war analyst said we have lost Iraq. Now she comes out with this babble about stabilizing factor and how worthwhile our efforts are over there and a win is doable.

She couldn't complete a sentence when she was bush's intelligence adviser, now that's a joke, and she now seems to complete one that makes no sense, amazing.

64. Kindasleezy is still holding to the neocon delusion of
the "reverse domino" theory, i.e., that if we can just turn Iraq into a functioning liberal (lower-case 'l') democracy, the other regimes in the Middle East will topple like a row of dominoes.

It's called "reverse domino" because it alludes to the so-called "Domino Theory" used to justify our involvement and genocide in southeast asia from 1954-74. That theory held that if Vietnam fell to Communism, other southeast Asian nations would soon also fall. The lunacy of the "Domino Theory" is visibile for all to see, as the Hilton Hotel corporation is actually running a real Hanoi Hilton now.

INVESTMENT?

Not fighting for a way of life and principles -
Not fighting for survival -
Not even fighting for honor -

For an INVESTMENT?

Tell me, bitch, when you run your spreadsheet, how much value are you allocating to each human life sacrificed?

Since you have no children, let's just say we take your mother and send her over there, perhaps to work in a hospital to tend to the shredded Iraqi children languishing there without even the benefit of pain killers. And then you can hope the hospital doesn't get bombed. And then we can send her there again for another two or three tours of duty.

Put that in your double-entry bookkeeping and then shove it.
