FCC defends fine for Janet Jackson breast flash
Edited on Sat Dec-23-06 12:28 AM by MGD
I can't wait until 2008ish when we can fire everybody at the FCC who thinks that censorship of words and breasts is still consistent with the values of the avergae American. I want to run these fuckers out on a rail and cut their funding in half for just this sort of bullshit. I don't know about you but I'm more offended by the existence of state empowered censors than I am the sight of Janet Jackson's breasts. This perceived need to edit the language of the music I enjoy listening to pisses me off even more. If you're offended by the music, change the fucking radio station pilgrim.

The article:
Fri Dec 22, 2006 9:21pm ET
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Federal Communications Commission late on Friday defended its decision to fine 20 CBS Corp. television stations $550,000 for airing a brief breast flash by pop singer Janet Jackson.

The agency rejected CBS's argument that her performance during the live 2004 Super Bowl football halftime show did not violate decency standards that restrict nudity on broadcast television.

"The FCC reasonably concluded that, although brief, this display of nudity violated longstanding federal prohibitions on the broadcast of indecent material," it said in a brief filed with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.

1. That is so laughable if it weren't so serious.
There is far more nudity on miss america pageants that JJ showed.
That whole bs about how beauty pageants are so "wholesome," totally ignoring the fact that it is all about sex. And sex is about survival.
I think beauty pageants are sexual bigotry and should be banned.

The shit that is going on in Iraq is pornographic but a quick shot of ms Jackson's breast I find kind of cute.

Those people are fucking nuts!

4. That breast shot took up time that could have been used for a murder or a betrayal.
No wonder the FCC is angry as hell. Standard TV fare was lost to teats. This will NOT be a trend.

5. They should be strenghtening
regulations on market saturation. . fairness doctrines. . monopolies.

There is plenty of legitimate work that they have been charged to do on our behalf.

10. Violence is Ok, boobs are not
I still can't figure that out. I would think the flash of a boob would be a lot less harmful to a child than watching someone get shot in the head, but I guess the FCC knows best. :sarcasm:

13. Congress needs to take a long hard look at the FCC's budget when it comes time to balance the budget
I think they could cut out 50% of the FCC's operating budget with no ill effects what-so-ever at all. I'll bet there are quite a few television station owners who would agree.

16. It's fine to depict a scene of a guy having a gun put to his head
and his brains splattering onto the sidewalk, but not okay for a partially covered boobie to be shown (she had that thingy around the nipple area). I honestly don't get it. If anything was obscene, it was the performance that was masquerading as music.

17. "Tits shouldn't even be ON the list"
Edited on Sun Dec-24-06 10:51 AM by mumon
To paraphrase George Carlin:
It's such a friendly word. Sounds like a nickname...Hey, Tits! Toots, meet Tits. Tits, Toots.

Sounds like a snack. I'm not talking about your sexist snack, I'm talking about NEW Nabisco Tits.

Cheese Tits, Corn Tits, Sesame Tits, Pizza Tits, and new Tater Tits!

Sorry folks. Carlin hit it dead on 30 years ago or so.

18. Like we don't KNOW what's behind the curtain.
It drives me nuts when the words are bleeped out on shows Cops or Springer. We all know what was just said so what's the difference?

On the radio it's the "n-word" or the "f-bomb". We have become a nation of giggling little pre-schoolers who can't use grown-up words.

I'm always reminded of the censored episode of X-Files. "That's a bleepin' dead alien alright. Bleep!"

19. The bush** admin flunkies will uphold and defend a fine for a flash
of boobie during the Superbowl but their damn appeals court judges will order that the fine for one of the biggest environmental disasters that ever happened in this country be cut in half (the fine for Exxon for the spill caused when the Valdez went on the rocks).

Now if that don't give you a case of intellectual and moral whiplash, nothing will.
